Dutch Passing Exercise (15 mins)

SetUp

20x20 area diamond

Organization

Player A starts with ball & passes with Players B. B recieves quickly passes to C. The sequence continues around the diamond. Recieve with back foot. Players follow their pass.

Progressions

1) Change direction, change receiving technique

2) Player A exchanges a pass with B, A plays to C. The sequence repeats from C who passes to D.

3) As shown above: Player A exchanges a pass with B, A plays to C. Player C plays back to B who plays accross to D. Player D plays to C, C plays a through pass to D and dribbles back to start.

Speed of play - 1/2 touch

Receiving Corners (15 mins)

Receiving ball with pressure

Organzation:

- Cone off 20 x 20 yrd box

- Cone off corners of each box

Instructions:

- 1 player at each corner with ball

- 2 players in the middle (1 Attacker / 1 Defender)

- Attacker is trying to receive as many passes from the corner players as posible without defender winning ball

- Defender is passive for first round

- Attack receives ball from corner player and plays it back

- Rotate players

Progression:

- Only 2 corners have ball

- Attack now recieves ball from 1 corner and pass to an open corner

Coaching Points:

- First touch into space, away from defender

- Receive with inside foot / outside foot

- Cushion ball

Passing Patterns (15 mins)

Set Up:

20 x 20 yard grid. Have spare balls with the coach on the side of the grid.

Instructions:

The coach plays a ball into the grid of four players. The players control the ball and pass it to each other so that every players touches the ball at least twice and then cross the line, then the next group goes, add patterns of play.

Coaching Points:

- Get in line with flight of the ball

- Early selections of controlling surface

- Head on a swivel to see the ball and check where the pressure is.

- Maintain body balance

- Quality passing

Progression:

Add a goal at one end, a defender to disrupt the passing

Screen 4 (15 mins)

Progression:

Now play the pattern from 1 to 4 with 4 to play the ball back to 1

Still have players follow their pass.

Note players in the central area 2-3 & 7-8 should always have a starting position behind the pole then com and check to the ball.

Progression change the direction to go from player 8 to 1.

Key points:

Weight of the pass, coushioning the ball, body position.

Screen 5 (15 mins)

The "Y" Drill,

Start with player 1 passing to player 2,player 1 follows his pass then player 2 should receive the pass side on and receive the ball on there back foot then open body up to play to either player 3 or player 4. Player 3 or player 4 then sprint dribbles around cones then passes ball back into a small goal then continue drill,

Key Points Points.

Weight of pass, Body shape when receiving pass, head up to look at target, passing technique and using inside and outside of both feet, check your shoulder.
