Warmup (10 mins)

Field Setup: 2 rows of cones about 10m apart; groups of 3 to 4 players

Concept: Player A dribbles towards opposite cone turning around cone and passing to Player B and then makes an off ball run while changing pass (opens up). Player B receives and dribbles forward.

Progression:

- Make turns around cone with different surfaces of the foot.

- Player B makes first touch with inside of foot to opposite side of cone before dribbling forward.

- Player A and Player B execute a wall pass.

- Player A pressures Player B on first touch

Coaching Points:

- Attack forward on first touch of ball while

- Proper technique of pass; toes up & heels down & lock ankle (firm foot)

- Weight & pace of pass

- Open up and change pace to create space after making pass

Figure 8 Passing (15 mins)

Field Setup: 2 rows of cones about 10m apart; 8 or more players

Concept: Player A passes to Player B receiving on the back foot while opening hips to make pass 2 to Player C. Players follow their pass. Players should make 2 touches.

Progression:

- Players should pressure the player they've passed to. For example, after Player A makes intial pass, apply defensive pressure on Player B.

- Players pass diagonally (Pass 4) except on the ends while continuing to pressure the next player. For example, Player A passes to Player B who then passes (Pass 4) to Player D continuing to pressure after making the pass.

Coaching Points:

- First touch is important; away from pressure; longer touch on diagonal passing

- Attack forward on first touch of ball if possible

- Proper technique of pass; toes up & heels down & lock ankle (firm foot)

- Weight & pace of pass

- Open hips up while receiving

- Players should check away & back in to create space away from defenders

- Communication or calling for the ball

4 Grid Field Awareness & Passing (35 mins)

Set Up:

- 5v5 + 2 neutrals; 1 big grid divided up in 4

- No restriction about going into grids

- Team wins a point by completing 3 passes in 4 grids without losing possession

Coaching Points:

- Awareness of which grids to attack and pass into based on numbers superiority

- Communication

- Speed of play (know what you are going to do before you receive the ball)

- Spacing: don't crowd one grid; be aware of where your teammates are
