Warm-up

Organization:

- 30x30 grid.

- Four pinnies.

- Two balls (extras on outside of grid).

Instructions:

-Four players start off as defenders holding the a pinnie each in there hand.

-Defenders look to touch a ball or force a ball out of play via a bad pass/touch from an attacker.

-Attacker who loses possession takes the pinnie and becomes a defender.

-Previous defender becomes an attacker.

-Attackers help each other to keep possession of both soccer balls.

Coaching Points:

- Communication - verbal and non-verbal.

- Awareness of space/pressure - head up.

- Ability to receive into space, away from pressure.

- Weight and accuracy of pass.

- Angle and distance of support.

- Movement to improve positioning on the field.

Progressions:

- Add/remove balls/defenders as necessary.

Technical Reps

Organization:

-6 Gates placed on the outside of the grid, 1 player inside each gate.

-6 Players w/ball inside grid.

-8x8 grid inside of middle of grid.

Instructions:

-Players inside grid with ball dribble around and look to connect a pass with the players inside the gates.

-Once Blue Player connects with the player, theu continue their run through the gate and takes the place of the Red Player inside the gate.

-Red Player takes his touch off to the side and back in to the grid.

-Before the player can look to pass, they must dribble through the blue box and perform some kind of move/skill.

-45/60 second rounds. See how many times they can connect with the gate players.

-Switch up the type of reception each round.

Coaching Points:

- Communication - verbal and non-verbal.

- Awareness of space/pressure - head up.

- Ability to receive into space, away from pressure.

- Weight and accuracy of pass.

- Angle and distance of support.

- Movement to improve positioning on the field.

1v1

Organization:

- 20x10 areas with 4yd endzones in front of each goal.

- Four groups of 3 set up as shown.

- Center line for each activity has a ball each.

- Extra balls in center.

Instructions:

- Player with ball passes to waiting player to begin activity then defends.

- Receiving player takes touch towards either direction and tries to score any time after first touch.

- Defending player cannot move until the ball has reached the receiving player.

- Scoring: 1pt for scoring from central area, 2pts for scoring in shaded area in front of goal.

- Encourage players to attack the space with their first touch (go for two points).

Coaching Points:

- All previous points.

- Observe the position of the defender to determine the space to take the touch into.

- Disguise the direction of the first touch.

- Use first touch to set up next action (i.e. a pass into the goal).

Progressions:

- Defender can start to close down the ball as soon as he releases the pass.

- Defender can look to score if he steals the ball and it remains in play.

Conditioned Game

Organization:

-6 Gates placed on the outside of the grid, 1 player inside each gate.

-6 Players w/ball inside grid.

Instructions:

-Similar set up to technical reps.

-Possession game

-Team Scores a point by connecting with one of their team members inside of the gate.

-After passing to a teammate in the gate, players switch out as they did before in the technical reps.

-Play first team to ten.

Coaching Points:

- Communication - verbal and non-verbal.

- Awareness of space/pressure - head up.

- Ability to receive into space, away from pressure.

- Weight and accuracy of pass.

- Angle and distance of support.

- Movement to improve positioning on the field.

Free Play

Organization:

-30x20 fields.

-Four teams of 3 or 4 (depending on numbers).

-Two fields of 3v3 or 4v4 (depending on numbers).

Instructions:

-Free play to goal.

-Restarts: kick-in or dribble in from side.

-No corners. Start from own goal if ball goes out for corner.

Coaching Points:

-Head up to observe space.

-Recognition of individual space.

-Recognition of teammate with space.

-Ability to take touch away from pressure, into space.

-Application of techniques taught in training.
