Our theme this week is strategies to defend against counter attacks.

The practice works as follows;

1. Blues attack the goal and play unrestricted.

2. Reds must defend the goal and score by running the ball into the shaded zone.

3. Once the reds have broken the blues last line, the Blues can pick up a balll from the halfway line to start their next attack.

Technical - early press of the ball from the nearest defenders.

Tactical - all other players must react to the "trigger" of the first defender.

Physical - match pacetempo at all times.

Psychological - maximum concentration at all times.

Technical - Reds should defend aggressively in the first instance to stop the attack.

Tactical - after an interceptionrestart the Reds should push up to support the breakaway. Blues need to decide whether to win the ball back or concede ground.

Physical - match pace & tempo for all actions.

Psychological - positive approach to all phases of the game.

Tactical - players decide whether to mark tight or cover.

Physical - speed and line of recovery runner.

Psychological - mentality to want to defend.
