Description

Today's session is all about teaching players how to turn with the ball at their feet while running. Different variations of turns include: inside turn, outside turn, step on turn, Cryuff turn, foot on ball roll back turn etc.

Very important to explain to players that turns and moves should be done with speed to get away from the defender. They should also understand the ball should be kept as close as possible to make it harder for the defender to poke it away.

Turning Relay Race (10 mins)

This drill is a relay race designed for players to work on their turning techniques.

Players are broken into pairs or threes depending on your numbers, so either 2 or 3 cones in the middle

Players start at starting point "A" and run to point "C" where they perform the turn instructed by the coach. On their way back they must put the ball on top of one of the cones at point "B". They must run back to point "A" and then the next person goes. Once all balls are on a cone in the middle and everyone is sitting, that team gets a point. Do a different turn each time.
