Partner Tag (15 mins)

Organization:

- Everyone has a ball

- The 2 players in blue are the freezers and they are trying to tag the players in white.

Variation

- Ways to freeze a players is by tagging the players or using the inside of the foot to strike the ball and hit the player

- To get unfrozen a player in white can tag you or you can have a player pass the ball through another players legs. this will help with using the inside of the foot.

Coaching Points:

- look for open space

- take small touches and burst into open space

- pick up head when dribbling to locate freezers and open space

1v1 Opposed (25 mins)

Organization:

1. 30x20 area

2. Two goals set up as shown.

3. Two groups as shown.

4. Plenty of balls.

Instructions:

1. Defender passes across to the attacker standing in the gate.

2. Defender presses after his pass.

3. Attacker looks to score on either of two goals.

4. If the defender wins the ball, he can counter by attacking the gate.

5. Play is over after someone scores or the ball goes out.

6. Players go back to their line and two new players begin the process.

7. Change roles after 2-3 minutes.

Coaching Points:

1. Quality and direction of first touch.

2. Look to attack space.

3. Head up to recognize space and pressure.

4. Selection of move.

5. Execution of move.

6. Look to cut into space across defender.

7. Accelerate away.

Progressions:

R - If quality of passes is poor, attackers start with the ball. Defender is live on attacker's first touch.

P - Add a time limit to score.

P - Assign different values to each goal to encourage attacking a specific side.

1v1 Turns (20 mins)

Organization:

Players divided into two teams

Standing beside their goal

Instructions:

Coach plays a ball out into the middle of the field

First player from each line races out to retrieve the ball and attempts to score on their goal

Play until goal scored, ball goes out, or 1 minute

Coaching Points:

Quickly out o get the ball

Turn back towards your goal and set up a shot

Protect the ball from your opponent while trying to score

Progressions:

Players can now score on either goal
