Pickle Tag (10 mins)

To start of you will need to create three or four squares as safe zones.

Have two players start of as the defenders, in the diagram these players are blue. In your session have them hold a pinnie or a cone.

To start the game the coach shouts "Go". The players have to leave their safe zone and try to get to another without being tagged by the defenders. If they get tagged the defender must drop the cone or pinnie in their hand and quickly get to one of the safe zones. The person who was tagged now assumes the role of the tagger.

Multi goal game (10 mins)

Focus - Ball Literacy

Name of Game: Gates

Organization

The coach places cones throughout the training area in pairs. Make the gates different sizes.

Make sure that there are at least 3-4 more goals than the number of players participating.

The coach then challenges the players (for a set period of time 15-30 seconds) to get as

many goals as possible by moving through the cones in various ways e.g. running forward,

running backwards, ball stuffed up shirt, ball above the head, bouncing the ball, hopping,

skipping, dribbling.

Alternatives

Ask open ended questions as to how they could dribble through more gates. Ask them if they dribbled through more gates after following the advice given. Never ask them how many gates but strive to get more gates.

Try and dribble through consecutive gates, aline some gates.
