Individual Change of Direction and Speed (20 mins)

Set up 2 grids approx 25 x 25 yds. Set up 6 x 6 yd grid in center to serve as guide.

Every player has a ball. dribble toward center grid, change direction towards next cone over (left or right). Progression through inside, outside, step over, scissors, etc.

Coaching Points:

1.Soft touches towards defender, then big touch away with explosion of speed.

2.Can we change direction with feint other way?

3.Can we show a change in speed of play?

1v1 Change Direction and Speed to Goal (20 mins)

Using same 25 x 25 yd grid as Activity above, set up 2 targets/goals.

Split group into 2 teams, Team A passes ball to player on Team B, creating a 1v1 situation. Player from Team B dribbles through 1 of 2 Targets/Goals. Constantly rotating.

Coaching Points:

1.Positive, soft first touch.

2.Engage the defender, big touch away (shield with body between defender and ball).

3.Explosion of speed away from defender.

3v3 Game with Restrictions (20 mins)

Field set up is 40 x 25 yds. Split group into small sided 3v3 teams.

Play begins with Restriction that ball can not be passed forward. Ball must be dribbled to go forward. Players are allowed to pass backward/behind to keep possession as needed.

Remove restrictions last 10 - 12 minutes.

Coaching Points:

1.Positive first touch.

2.Be confident, can we take on defenders and recognize when in a 1v1 situation?

3.Quality of direction and speed change.
