Passing and retain possession or shoot (20 mins)

8 - 12 players

30 x 40 m pitch (smaller with younger age groups)

Rules:

One team attempts to retain possession; the other team tries to win the ball and score a goal

The team passing has to make 6 passes to score a goal, the defending team get a goal for each time they shoot into the mini target goals.

The roles are reversed each time the defending team win the ball, and shoot into the target goals.

Re-start after a goal is scored by the passing team having possession of the ball

The teams work for a set time period at each role (3 minutes possession, 3 minutes defending).

* Use of the guided discovery coaching style is a great way of allowing the players learn for themselves.

Passing using weaker foot

10 passes before a goal / point is scored

Doing a wall pass / 1:2 gets an extra point

Shooting with weaker foot

Shooting 'first time' without taking a touch

Dribbling past an opponent before they can shoot
