Team Learning Objectives

- Maintaining possession in numbers up/numbers down situations

Session Organisation

- As shown, multiple groups playing in one area

How to Play

- Groups divided up into 2v1s and 3v2s. Groups try to maintain/win possession whilst playing in amongst other groups.

Varying Phases of Play

Team Learning Objectives

- Playing out from the back against 1, 2 and 3 front runners

- Playing out against varying midfield formations

- Playing out against different levels of defense pressure

Session Organisation

- As shown

How to Play

- The teams are organised (red and blue) and given a tactics board each. Blues are told they will play with 1 front runner and must determine how they would choose to defend to stop the reds playing out

- Reds are told blue will play with 1 front runner and must determine the best way to play out against 1 striker

- Play lasts for 20-30 minutes before teams are brought in to discuss their methods. Teams are then reorganised and the same exercise takes place, but with blue playing 2 front runners

- Same exercise but playing out against 3 strikers

- Blue team are encouraged to change their defensive strategy - Press high and quickly? Drop off and defend in a low block? Man to man or zonal?
