Warmup- Pattern Play (15 mins)

Organization:

Setup as shown with 1 player on each cone, and the excess players on A and F.

Instructions:

WIthout Ball:

Have players run to each cone in the sequence and clap hands with that person to establish that all players understand the rotation.

With Ball

Balls start at point A and F, passing pattern is as follows: A-B-C-D-E-F (F-G-H-I-J-A), both balls start at the same time.

Coaching Points:

-Communication Cue (Verbal, Visual, Body Language)

-Movement to provide proper body shape and angle/distance of support to receive the ball, by opening up from cone and establishing a good receiving angle

-Receive on the back foot to play the ball quickly with the opposite foot

-Proper Passing Technique

Progressions:

Have them reverse directions

-B plays into C who sets ball for B to play into D (G-H-I on opposite side)

-A plays into C who sets for B to play into D (F-H-G-I on opposite side)

Regression:

Take away players from C&H

Main Theme (15 mins)

Organization:

1.two 40x30 boxes

2. 4 attacking players with a ball plus 2 defender in each grid.

Instructions:

1.Players attempt to pass the ball around area, keeping possession, until they can connect with one of the attakers in the other grid in the 2nd grid and get a point.

1.Spacial and tactical awareness

2.Communication

3.Transitioning and taking on a new role in a matchlike situation.

4.angle of passes and support.

Main Theme Part 2 (15 mins)

Organization: 4 Players from each team in each grid, with 2 players from each team in the opposing teams grid

Instructions:

Team in possession looks to maintain possession against the 2 opposing players while looking to play into the 2 players from their team that tin the opposite grid for 1 point.

3.Transitioning and taking on a new role in a matchlike situation.

Conditioned Game (20 mins)

1. Coach starts activity and defenders should start as a compact unit. No one is allowed into the 18 except for the goalkeeper. When keeper catches ball, defenders get to attacking shape.

2. White try to connect a minimum of five passes before playing into targets.

3. If blue wins the ball, play ball back to coach for the first 5 times. After that, blue can attack the goal right away.

Progression:

1. Allow now when the ball goes out of play to have it be played in from the spot that it went out, to be able to work on working the ball out from different areas on the field.

Coaching Points: Shape in transition to play and get out, center halves split and FBs must get high and wide; passing options in relation to shape; quality passes (speed and weight); high tempo at all times

Tactical Activity (20 mins)

Instructions:

White team looks to play the ball out of the back look to score into 1 of the 3 counter goals. If Blue wins the ball they look to score on regular goal. Game is played with normal rules, and restarts happen where the ball went out.

Coaching Points

2 and 3 should be high and wide when we have possession

2 and 3 should have the freedom to get up into the attack

the 10 should find space b/t lines and offer the depth. Also needs to make good decisions on the ball

6 and 8 are pivot players, looking to change the point of attack when possible.

5 and 4 drop out and provide depth and support when the ball stalls

6 and 7 need to be in support of the ball and create space for each other

Be quick in transition to defend spaces and get compact right away in relation to the ball.

Connect the lines and whole team gets forward when ball is forward.

Read visual and verbal cues from teammates to anticipate movements.
