4v4 SSG (20 mins)

Set up & organization

Split a 30x30 in half with a clearly marked half way line . Have one big goal, and two small target goals either end of area.

Instructions

One team plays with a GK and three outfield players. They are the defending team. The other team has 4 players and is attacking. Game starts with coach playing an aerial ball into the defending team. They must call for the ball and deal with it with what skill they deem necessary. The GK can also come out and claim the ball. Once the ball is under control the defending team plays the ball into the attackers and then we play a 4v3 to a finish.

Coaching points

Good control out of the air, or good defensive headers.

GK must be dominant if the ball is in his area.

Defenders must display very good understanding through communication and instructions.

Positive attitudes to defend the goal, and break quickly if possession is gained.

All defensive principles in play here, but the organization of the group of three is key.
