Learning Objectives

Technical Technical
Basics of closing down the ball.

Technical Instruction (20 mins)

Setup: Cones set up 10 yards a part in a zig-zag formation. 2 cones to dribble around to reset.

Instruction: Drill will start with Player A who will pass to player B then close down immediately. Drill will continue with B going to C and so forth. Once the 1st ball played get to player C then a new Player A will start the next rotation. Once the ball gets to the last player (F), that player will need to dribble quickly around the 2 cones to get back to the front of the line to keep flow continuious.

4 rules to cover

1) Close down- Close the space between you and the attacker as fast as possible

2) Break down- Start taking smaller steps as you near the attacker (stutter step)

3) Get Down - Assume a good athletic stance to maintain balance. Knees bent, chest over toes

4)Show down- Force the player to one side to make them predictable. Preferably toward their weaker foot or a sideline.

* Make sure there is a pause before the player makes their next pass so that the defender can perform the 4 steps.

* Once the 1st ball gets to player C the next player A will start another session.
