Warm up (15 mins)

Organization: Have two players face each other about 10-15 yards away from each other, standing next to cone.

Instructions: Every 5th pass the player will run towards the player with the ball. The player will than get in an defensive athletic stance. The player with the ball will now dribble towards the cone he is facing. The player in the defensive stance will shadow the player with the ball until he is back to his cone.

Coaching Points:

Make sure the correct technique are done when the passes are being performed.

When the 5th pass is complete make sure players are in the correct defensive stance.

( Close the player down as quickly as possible, as he gets closer to the player with the ball, slow down and take smaller steps, get down and bend knees, and force the player to a side. Allow player with the ball to dribble to cone with defensive player in front of him with no pressure.

Progressions:

Start passes on the ground with power and pace.

After passes on the ground, switch to low driven passes. (Using laces, with accuracy)

After low driven passes, progress to lob or lofted passes in the air.

After 5th pass defensive player can put pressure on receiving player. If defensive player wins the ball he gets a point. If receiving player dribbles passed defender and to the cone successfully he get a point. First one to 3 wins the series.

Main Activity (25 mins)

Organization: Break up grid into thirds. Depending on how many players are make grid smaller or bigger. Three teams of three different colors

Instructions:Players that are in the middle grid are the defending team. Only one player from the defending team(Blue) can go pressure the team on the outside (Black) while the other two players stay in the middle. The team on the outsides are to complete three passes, if three passes are done successfully they are to send the ball over to the other side of the field (Red). If the ball is switched successfully that team gets a point (In this case black). The two players in the middle are allowed to break up the switch pass. If the defending team (blue) wins the ball either on the pass or on the 3v1 ,they now switch with black and now black is in the middle grid. When ball is won by defending team, you immediately start from the other side of the field.

Coaching Points:

Make sure defensive player is the correct stance.

The two players in the middle of the grid need to be in the correct position, blocking potential passing lanes.

Make sure the switch the pass is accurate and to another player, don't just try to get it over.

Don't force the switch, keep possession and wait for the right time to switch the play.

Progressions:

Increase the number of passes from 3 to 5.

Decrease the amount of touches from unlimited to 3 touches to 2 touches.

Add another defender creating a 3 v 2 on the ends of the grid.

Conditioned play (25 mins)

Organization: Make grid into thirds. Two teams. 15 x 35 yards

Instructions: Play 4 v 4 in middle grid. After 3 successful passes play the ball in the final third of the field. Only one defender can defend the final third of the field and only two attackers can enter the final third of the field creating a 2 v 1 scenario on the ends. However the player that receives the first pass into the final third cannot score. He must wait for another attacker and pass the ball. (This allows the defender to have a opportunity to get back).

Coaching Points:

Game will start out very tight but will open up.

Encourage players to spread out and look for key passes leading to attack.

Focus on keeping the possession, building from the back and waiting for correct pass.

Good technique on passes and receiving balls.

Be efficient on the 2 v 1 and look to be aggressive on the end of the field.

Progressions:

Limit amount of touches

Increase the amount of passes from 3 to 5

Allow another defender in final third creating 2 v 2 or can add another attacker as 3 v 2
