Warm Up - Turning (30 mins)

Simple Speed, Agility, and quickness done prior to warm up (10 minutes).

Organization:

- Players evenly spread out among 4 corners.

- Each player with ball.

Instructions:

- Players dribble towards middle cone.

- Perform specific turn and return to their line.

- Next player goes.

- Drag (Pull) back, Outside Cut, Pull Back, Cryuff

Coaching Points:

1.Controlled Approach.

2. Proper technique of each turn

3.Check Shoulder to identify space

- Keep body between defender / ball when turning (determines type of turn)

- Ball out of feet, Head up, Accelerate Out

Progressions:

- Relay Race / Keep track of turns as team

- Perform any turn you want

- Take out middle cone, players must turn on person diagonally across from them

Main Theme - Turning - Semi-Opposed (20 mins)

Organization:

-25 x 20yds

- 2 teams

- Each player with ball in lines as shown

Instructions:

- First player in line dribbles past second line of cones, performs turn (Cryuff), then dribbles to first line of cones, performs turn (turn of players choosing), then finishes before passing second line of cones (see diagram)

- Next player in line may go when player performs his second turn

- Play games to 10 goals. Play best out of 3, 5, etc. games

- No point if player fails to cross line, shoot from behind line, or player does not follow restrictions of progressions

Coaching Points:

- Controlled Approach.

- Check Shoulder to identify space.

-Proper technique of all turns used during warm up.

- Ball out of feet, Head up, Accelerate Out.

Progressions:

- Players cannot perform same turn twice.

- Players cannot perform same 2nd turn as player in front of them.

- Limit players to weak foot.

Main Theme: 2v1 (Fully Opposed) (20 mins)

Organization:

- 2, 2 x 15yd fields.

-Players split evenly in to two teams.

- Balls on the end with the goal.

Instructions:

-Defender passes the ball to an attacker.

-Attackers go 2v1 to goal.

-If defender wins the ball, try to score in counter attack goal.

-Players can only pass backwards or sideways.

-Goal or ball out of bounds, next group goes.

Coaching Points:

1.Body Between Defender / Ball

2.Choice of turn

3.Execution of Turn.

4. Don't force the ball forward, find your partner and keep the ball.

Progressions:

-Change rotation to make it more transitional.

-Faster tempo.

Free play (20 mins)

Organization:

3v3 Small-sided tournament games: 4 teams of 3 players each team. 2 fields of 30x40 yards with 2 Pugg Goals on opposite endlines.

Instructions:

4 Teams of 3, play 3v3 tournament style format where each team will play one another. 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 for a loss. Each game should be approximately 6-8 minutes in duration (obviously play a 3 game tournament).

Coaching Points:

· Review of session's learning outcomes being translated into the game

· 3 lines of attack

· Creating diamond (gives angles of support)

· Making diamond as big as possible (Creating space)

· Identifying any numbers up situations
