Unopposed static shooting - 10/15 mins
Players work in groups of 3 (2 shooters, 1 GK). Shooters take it in turns to shoot at GK who is in middle of their channel. After each shot GK roles/passes ball to next shooter.
Key Coaching Points -
Shooters - Striking ball with instep/laces, NO TOES!
- Striking middle of ball, body over ball
- Non kicking foot beside ball pointing forwards
- Aiming for corners
GK's - Getting two hands on ball (not just kicking it)
- Good quality pass/role to striker
- Watch ball & be on toes

Passing & Shooting 10/15 mins
Split players into two - passers/ shooters. Passers start by side of goal with soccer balls. They pass towards penalty spot for shooter to run on to and shoot first time. Passer joins back of the shooter line and the shooter joins the back of the passers line
This should be a fast paced practice with plenty of rotations. Ensure shooters are collecting ball after shot before joining passers line. GK to role ball quickly out to passers side if saved, leave ball if goal is scored so practice doesn't slow down.
Progression:
- Player who passes ball then steps in to become defender and add pressure to shooter.
Key Coaching Points -
- Angle of approach, hip rotating through ball
- Aiming for corners
- Striking middle of ball with instep/ laces/ inside NOT TOES
- Quality/ weight of pass from passer
- Attentiveness of players, are they ready for the ball?

Opposed Passing & Shooting - 10/15 mins
Same set up as previous drill. P1 passes to P2. P2 & P3 become attackers, P1 becomes defender (2v1). P2 makes decision to either shoot/ pass/ dribble. After play, players rotate to joing line at different station e.g P1 becomes P2.
Key Coaching Points:
- Attackers to shoot when in space (instep/ laces)
- Attackers communicate/ support each other
- Follow up shot in case of rebound.
- Are players making right decision - when to shoot/ when to pass?
- Defender - pressure ball staying goal side
