Activity I: Rondo/Square - Technical/Tactical (15 mins)

Organization

- x2 15 x 15 areas set up as shown

- 5 yard gap between each area

- 10 Players set up as shown (4 Attackers vs 2 Defenders)

- Coach acts a server

- 1 Ball (additional with coach)

Actvity

- Players are split into two groups/areas (1&2) as shown

- In one area a 4v2 keep away game takes place, whilst the other area await transition

- Attackers must stay on outside of area & attempt to make 6 consecutive passes to score a point

- Attackers are restricted to the outside but can move across their line

- Defenders work together to win the ball or force a mistake

- The Attacker who gives the ball away becomes a Defender (along with team mate opposite)

- They must then transition into other area & become Defenders (see diagram)

- Each time play is broken down or ball is lost, coach serves ball into oppsite area to trigger the transition

Coaching Points

- Support: Anticipate the play, be alert & prepared to support your team mate

- Body Shape: Position of body & feet in order to receive & et up next action quickly

- Pass: Can you be creative & quick with your pass. Penertrate & play your way through Defenders

- Awareness: Scan your surroundings inorder totake snapshots of the situation

- Transition: Make sue you react quickly to Defend. Attitude to close down & win the ball back!

Progression

P - If Attackers split Defenders with a pass it counts as double

P - Attackers have 1 touch maximu

Activity II: SAQ/1v1 Warm Up (25 mins)

Organization

- SAQ Circuit set up as shown (Ladders, Hurdles & Cones)

- Smaller SSG Field set up as shown (15x25)

- 8-10 Players (2 Teams/Groups in bibs)

- 2 Mini Goals set up as shown

Activity

- Players are split into two teams & begin start cone

- 1 Player from each group move through the SAQ exercise A-C

- (A) Fast Feet through ladder - add variations (B) One/Two footed jump/landing over hurdles (C) 2 x one touch passes or volleys back to server - either side of cone

- Once player completes the SAQ they look to sprint through the gate on to the SSG field

- The first player onto the field receives the ball from coach & looks to attack (1v1)

- Players keep playing until goal is scored or ball goes out of play

- The next player in line can commence SAQ circuit once previous has finished passes/volleys from server

- If they enter SSG whilst previous game is still going they can join in to make 2v2

- One the way back to group previous player takes spot of the server

Coaching Points

- SAQ: Focus on quality of body balance, speed & execution through circuit

- Assertive: Get into the SSG area quickly & win possession!

- Receiving: Is there space to attack? are you under pressure?

- Awareness: Position & pressure of Defender in 1v1

- Attacking: Be positive & go for goal. Get Defender on the back foot. End Product!

P - Coach can server the ball to either player

P - Coach can serve the ball into space

Activity III: Technical/Tactical 3v2 (10 mins)

Organization

- 25 x 35 area set up as shown

- 6 players (3 Attackers, 3 Defenders)

- 2 Mini Goals set up as shown

- 1 Mannequin set up as shown in center of area

- 1 Ball (additional on outside)

Activity - (1)

- Players are set up as shown in groups of 5 (A-E)

- A plays into B who checks off mannequin/cone & sets back to A

- A plays ball down to opposite endline to C who sets back to B

- B receives from C & has the choice to play around the corner to either D or E

- Once ball reaches player on the side (D or E) the activity now transitions into a 3v2 game

Activity - (2)

- Activity transitions into a 3v2 game, with Yellow players as Attackers & Red players Defenders

- Attacking players aim to score in either Mini Goal

- If Defenders win the ball they aim to work together & dribble the ball over opposite end line

Coaching Points

- Movement: Awareness of team mate & ball, timing of movement to receive & play quickly

- Body Shape: Can you receive with open body shape to aid next action

- Pass: Accuracy, weight & quality of pass. Can you play 1 touch to speed up play?

- Awareness: Can you spot overload opportunities - create 2v1 overloads?

- Finishing: Be direct & attack quickly. Penertrate space infront, between & behind to attract Defenders!

Activity

- Team play 3v3+1 possession game inside smaller area (circle)

- Team in possession looks to make 6 consecutive passes before they can then break out to score

- Attacking team can use team mates on outside of circle, who are restricted to 1 touch maximum

- Neutral players supports the team in possession of the ball

- After 6 consecutive passes attacking team break out of circle & look to score in designated goals

- Team can use the whole area to score & team mates on outside now join in the play to create (5v5+1)

- If Defending team wins the ball they must make 6 passes before scoring

- When a goal is scored or ball goes out of play the activity restarts in smaller area & players reset

Coaching Points

- Possession: Quality of pass, possession with a purpose & circulation of the ball

- Support: Aware of space & surroundings. Can you be an option between/behind opposition?

- Transition: Reaction as an individual & team. Break out, make the pitch big & seperate the opposition

- Awareness: Which is the best goal to score in? Look for the cues: out numbered? overloads?

- Finishing: Be positive in front of goal!!

Progression

P - After 6 consecutive passes the "break out" pass must be played outside the circle to run on to (see diagram)

P - Adjust the consecutive pass count

P - Must be a one touch finish into mini goals

Activity

- Players are assigned a number 1 to 5 & play possession game inside area

- Neutral player supports the team in possession

- Coach acts as a server on the outside of area & act random calls out a number

- Players with those numbers race into smaller area to win ball played in by coach & play 1v1 game

- Players in 1v1 game must score in designated gate by dribbling. Meanwhile possession game continues in larger area (now 3v3+1)

- If a goal is scored in 1v1 game all players now transition & break out into full field 4v4+1 SSG.

- The player/color who scored goal starts with possession for team in SSG, who aim to score in mini goals at opposite end

- Possession Game 4v4+1 >> 1v1 Game >> 4v4+1 SSG Full Field

Organization

- Full pitch set up as shown (Box to Box)

- Middle 1/3 zone marked as shown (cones)

- 12 Players (5 Attackers, 5 Defenders & 2 Goalkeepers)

- 4 Mini Goals set up as shown

- 2 Full Size Goals set up as shown

Activity

- Play begins with either goalkeeper who work with Attackers (Red) to score in Mini Goals at opposite end. Play is directional

- (A1) can operate both in and outside of middle 1/3 & receive from goalkeeper (see diagram) can pass or dribble into middle 1/3 zone

- Midfielders/Defenders (Yellow) aim to deny, distrupt & block passing lines, win possession & to score in full size goal. Must score in goal they are facing. Cannot turn & score in goal behind them!

- Once Yellow win the ball they are free to build attacks through & out of the middle 1/3 and score by passing combinations and dribbling

- If goalkeeper makes a save, ball goes out of play or a goal is scored play begins from goalkeeper & play restarts again

Coaching Points

- Anticipation: be alive, alert & ready to intercept/block passes

- Connection: Stay connected as a unit. Slide, Screen & Show the play away from danger

- Focus: Concentration on the ball & its movement

- Communication: Coach each others movements, try to make the play predictable

- Strategy: Which is best defensive strategy to adopt; drop, block, contain? push & press?

- Transition: Adjust & React quickly if Attackers manage to penertrate, Score & changes of possession

- Finishing: Look to attack quckly on the counter - be positive & take advantage of overload
