Delivery from winger (10 mins)

Crossing and Finishing Part 1

Mark out a 30 x 60 yard area as shown

Ball starts with GK who rolls it out to the left or right. In the example it is rolled to player A who switches to the opposite winger. Both A and B make attacking runs into the box to meet the cross from the driving winger.

The play then starts with the opposite GK. It is essential that the GK's vary which side they feed to so that all 4 wide players are involved.

Rotation

A and B join the back of the lines on the side of the goal they just attacked. Wide players can be rotated every few minutes if needed

Coaching Points

- Weight, timing and accuracy of pass wide and cross

- Timing and effectiveness of attacking runs

- Type of finish depending on the situation

Organisation:

8 v 8

Reds team play a 3-3-1, as to allow width. (work with red team)

Blue team play a 3-2-2, if they win possession can they play long into corners

Key Points

- Do the attacking FB's & Wingers play high and wide to create crossing opportunities. Can they create a 2 v 1 on the defender, Can a overlap be achieved?

- Do they work together to achieve the outcome, if Winger cant cross does he play FB. Is FB's angles and distances correct to be in a position to receive.

- Does the Winger receive a pass in his path as to play a first time cross. Good end product, cross into "second" six yard box

- How does opposite Winger react, does he attack back post?

- Strikers run, straight or bent? Does he drag defender away first to create a space to attack?
