UEFA B Component 1 (20 mins)

This is a Uefa B Licence Component One drill looking at Striker Movement in a 4-4-2.

The drill is directed towards one goal and is game related, Attack vs Defence. In this occasion I am using half of a pitch.

2 options are given. The options will look at the movement of the strikers to create chances on goal and the effective movements needed to create space.

Option 1 (Red)- FB plays a bounce pass with the CM and plays an angled pass to the 2nd striker. As this pass travels the 1st striker runs in an arced fashion towards the goal. The 2nd striker will hold the ball up and lay the 1st striker off. Depending on the type of lay-off the striker will either take the 1st time shot or drive into towards the goal with a positive touch.

Option 2 (Blue) - FB plays a positive pass towards the 2nd striker. 2nd striker passes to the CM. As this pass is made I am looking for the 2nd striker check in towards the pitch, clearing the space to angle a run out wide and receive the ball from the CM. As the CM plays this pass to the 2nd striker the 1st striker spins out and hits the box ready to receive a cross.

Coaching Points

Strikers can offer various options to the attack :-

- Have first time shot if lay off is of good quality

-Drive into the box if space is available

-Attack the front post if cross is on.

-Sit at edge of the box if ball drops out and provide a cut-back option

Progression 1 - Add a live defender to the exercise to make the movemnets more realistic.

- Ball starts from Full Backs

- Work the ball forward into the final third and look for the Strikers movement to create space and allow the other players to utilise this space whether it be the 2nd striker or a supporting midfielder.
