Warm Up/Ball Mastery (10 mins)

Organization: 20ydx20yd box

12 players, 1 ball each, players arranged in circle or half circle with coach in the center

Instructions: static touches, 4 touches then rest for count of 4

- toe touches,

inside touches,

toe couches moving forward then backward,

toe touches moving in half circle around the ball ( ball stays in place),

forward and back bottom of the foot,

sideways and back,

forward and back/sideways and back

Coaching Points:

-use of correct surface of the foot

-light touches on the ball

-knees bent to help with balance

-eye on the ball as your foot makes contact

-hop on standing foot as the ball moves to help with balance

Unopposed (5 mins)

Organization: Red Light - Green Light 20ydx20yd box

-12 players, 1 ball each

Instructions:

-all players dribble around the box listening to the coach's commands

-stop ball using bottom of the foot when coach calls "Red Light"

-continue to dribble when coach calls "green light"

-coach acts as 'police officer' trying to catch players dribbling through a Red Light

Coaching Points:

-use of laces or pinky toe to dribble forward into space, use of the bottom of the foot to stop the ball

-inside, outside, or bottom of the foot to change direction before running out of bounds or into another player

-be sure to maintain your balance when stopping the ball, try to keep your foot on it the whole time

-head up to find space to dribble into

Semi-opposed (10 mins)

Organization:Triangle Tag 20yd x 20yd box

-12 players, a ball each, 5 triangles set up with cones as shown

Instructions:

-10 player dribble around the area, 2 players hold there ball and run around as the 'it' players

-the triangle act as 'free zones' where the dribblers cannot get tagget by the 'it' players

-player holding a ball try to tag another player by throwing the ball so it hits the other player's ball

-if your ball gets hit you become the 'it' player, and the other player retrieves their ball to continue dribbling

-only 1 player may occupy the triangle at a time

-if you are the player in the triangle, you must dribble out of the triangle as soon as the another player enters

Coaching Points:

-head up to observe the position of the defender, and to find space or a 'free zone'

-smaller touches to keep the ball close when entering a triangle

-larger touches when there is space in front of you to go faster into that space

Progressions:

leave the triangle on a different side then the one entered by the next player

add additional defenders or 'it' players

Semi-opposed (5 mins)

Organization:Hot Potatoe 20ydx20yd box

-same set up as previous activity with one change

-5 players start inside the traingles without a ball, ready to receive

Instructions:

-Players dribbling around the area try to pass the ball into a player waiting in the triangle, then take their place as the player inside the traingle

-receiving player attempts to receive with the inside of the foot and leave through the other side of the traingle

-if a player's pass does not go into the traingle, the must retrieve the ball and keep playing

-if a player's ball goes out of bounds, that player becomes the 'it' player

-players who are 'it' play the same as the previous game

Coaching Points:

-inside fo the foot to pass and receive

-ankle locked, foot and knee opened to the ball

-head up to observe your open teammate

-receiving players must call for the ball

-do not play a pass to a player who is not looking at you

Progressions:

add more defenders or 'it' players

Conditioned Game (15 mins)

Organization:4 goals, 4 teams

-each team sets up by a goal, as shown

Instructions:

-1 player per team comes onto the field playing 1v1v1v1

-score at any goal but your own

-play until the ball goes out or a goal is scored

-rotate new players for each new ball served from the coach

-keep score by counting the goals scored by each team

or

keep score by counting the goals scored on each team

Coaching Points:

same as previous activities

-get your head up quickly to recognize moments to score

Progressions:

play 2v2 by having two lines work together on the same team,

white and royal blue vs yellow and dark blue

Regression:

play with two lines instead of 4, making the game 1v1,

can reduce number of goals to 2, or keep 4 goals
