Juggling/Ball Mastery (20 mins)

Organization:

Each player with a ball

Instructions:

Players begin to juggle the ball in the area, which specific challenges given to player as the players arrive

Progress into ball mastery, with rules that they must stay within the boundaries and cannot run into each other. Begin to detail Messi v Ronaldo touches, the surfaces of the foot with which to dribble the ball, and the importance of keeping our head up.

Coaching Points:

Knees slightly bent

On our toes to be able to adjust our body

Proper surface to play ball

Messi/Ronaldo Touches

Introduction to moves

Progressions:

Progress into asking players on command to find space with any player in the most amount of space when the coach says "Freeze" getting a point.

-Add in 2 taggers who try to simply put their foot on another players ball, if they do that player is frozen and can only be unfrozen if tag by a teammate.

Main Theme - Dribbling / RWB - Semi-Opposed (20 mins)

Organization: All players with ball in two equal lines as shown

Instructions: On coaches command one of the lines will dribble to the other end line, when the first group is about halfway the other group will begin to dribble to the other end of the grid

Coaching Points:

Messi v Ronaldo Touches (when should be using messi and when to use Ronaldo)

Heads up

Surface of foot used to dribble (laces and pinky toe)

Progressions:

Have players perform boxes,dribble with one foot or surface only

Have both groups go at the same time

Main Theme - Dribbling - Sharks and Nemo's (20 mins)

Organization:

- Players start on one endline w/ ball each (Nemo's)

- Coach determines number of players that start in middle as defenders (usually one) (Sharks)

Instructions:

- Nemo's (White) attempt to dribble across endline w/o the ball leaving the area

- Sharks (Blue) attempt to knock Nemo's balls out of play

- For younger ages limit defenders to kicking one ball out per round to allow more dribbling repitition for players.

- For younger ages have defenders identify by pointing which player they are going to attempt to take the ball from. This will allow the attacker to identify his defender and the space he will want to get into.

Coaching Points:

- Close control

- Head up

- Identification of space --> Messi v Ronaldo dribbling technique

- Change of direction / speed at defenders

4v4 - Small Sided Games (30 mins)

Organization:

4v4 Small-sided tournament games: 4 teams of 4 players each team. 2 fields of 30x40 yards with 2 Pugg Goals on opposite endlines.

Instructions:

4 Teams of 4, play 4v4 tournament style format where each team will play one another. 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 for a loss. Each game should be approximately 6-8 minutes in duration (obviously play a 3 game tournament).

Coaching Points:

· Review of session's learning outcomes being translated into the game

· 3 lines of attack

· Creating diamond (gives angles of support)

· Making diamond as big as possible (Creating space)

· Identifying any numbers up situations
