Unopposed Practice (15 mins)

Unopposed Practice - Ariel Control with Throw In

30 x 30

Players split into two, Player 1's with ball on outside of grid as feeders, Player 2's inside grid without ball. P1's perform throw in to P2's who control/trap (foot/thigh/chest) the ball and pass back to P1. P2 then finds different P1 who's open with ball and repeats exercise. Play for three minutes then switch roles.

Progression:

P1 throws to P2 who controls ball, performs a turn, dribbles and passes to new P1. P2 then looks for new P1 to receive throw in from.

Key Coaching Points:

1 - Players are cushioning ball (chest/thigh/foot) and getting ball to ground asap to control.

2 - P2's are on toes, moving to the ball.

3 - P2's communicate with P1's where they want the ball e.g. 'feet'.

4 - Players are using inside of foot for accurate passing.

5 - Players are getting their head up to find open ball.

6 - P1's are performing legal throw in.

Opposed Practice (15 mins)

Opposed Practice - Ariel Control with Throw In

30 x 30

Same as progression in previous drill but with an active defender pressuring the ball. Defender must steal ball and make successful pass to a player on the outside to switch roles. Which ever player lost their ball to the defender now becomes the defender. Perform for three minutes then switch roles.

Progression:

1 - Increase number of defenders

2 - Make area smaller/bigger

3 - Make a competition, see how many successful passes P2's can make in three mins.

Key Coaching Points:

1 - Same KCP as previous drill.

2 - P2's are getting their head up and dribbling away from defender & into space.

3 - P1's are communicting with P2's to warn them of defender/ tell them they have space.

15/20 minute scrimmage focusing on ariel control, communication, throw ins and movement into space.
