Juggling Warm-Up

Organization:

In a 30x40 yard grid, players in groups of 2 (pairs) and a ball between the pair.

Instructions:

"Sequential Passing (Juggling) Challenge": One partner tosses the ball to the other partner who has 1 touch to play (juggle) a pass back to the tosser; who then has 2 touches to get it back to their partner; who then has 3 touches to get it back to their partner (the tosser); etc. If the pair allows the ball to touch the ground or messes up the number (pass) sequence, then they start again at 1. See how many consecutive sequential passes (juggles) each pair can get. 

Coaching Points:

 · Players try to improve their touches (suppleness, control and foot-eye coordination) by juggling with different surfaces of their feet & body.

 · Partner has to line their body up to the ball (pass) in the air.

 · Eye contact between the 2 players.

 · Communication between the 2 players.

Organization:

12 players in a 2 lane grid, 10x20 yards.

Instructions:

Players form 2 lines in each lane and go through a variety of dynamic stretches in 2 lines. Add any static stretches as needed.

inside open up (gate turn)

inside spin

Advaced turns: progressions

Inside flick around defender if there is space

(if possible) inside chip spin to inside of defender around line (defender coming fast from a slow start)

Organization: x 3 Grids (for 12 players)

Groups of 4 (A, B, C & D -- who will be a resting player) in a 20x30 yard grid with 1 ball.

Instructions:

3 lines.

 · Player A plays into player C (B is covering defender) on middle line after player B checks at an angle.

 · Player B opens out and plays to player D who dribbles back to start and process continues.

Progression:

Moves to Beat End Player:

 Free play 1v1 (encourage scissors)

Coaching Points:

 Create team space

create individual space

communication

visual cues to move so not stationary receiving

look over shoulder

body shape

when to use front

teach the reverse flick if space behind defender

Teach the pass back to A if applicable

1st Player:

Drive Commit communicate, The pass, visual cue to see whats "on", choose the other option

2nd player:

Fix the defender (check or stretch), Go high as possible, Use surface and weight that serves best serves A and fixes defender

3rd player:

Movement, visual cues, 3rd players first touch to set up with end in mind

All:

Play D as quick as possible

Support attack after progresses

Use speed of defender against them, read the defender

Instructions:

If defender scores he gets 2 points. If the attackers score they both get a point.

Tournament 3v3/4v4

Organization:

4v4 Small-sided tournament games: 3 teams of 4 players each team. 1 field of 30x40 yards with 2 Pugg Goals on opposite endlines.

Instructions:

Players split into 3 teams (3 different pennie colors) of 4 and play 2 minute or Golden Goal games, winner stays on, losing team comes off & resting team comes on to play winning team. Team coming on gets to start the new game. This allows games to be short and sharp and keeps the tempo of the sessions and games high.

Coaching Points:

· Review of session's learning outcomes being translated into the game

· 3 lines of attack

· Creating diamond (gives angles of support)

· Making diamond as big as possible (Creating space)

· Identifying any chances to combine
