Passing Pattern with finish (15 mins)

Simple passing pattern that includes a short dribble with a trick.

Player A shifts the ball to the left of the white gate and makes pass (1) into player B.

Player B checks off white cone to receive, beat the cone and play pass (2) into player C.

Player C dribbles (3) and must include a trick before red gate. At red gate player C punches a pass into the target goal

Player D restarts the same pattern to the opposite side (5).

Players of all ages should be able to incorporate 3 balls.

Progression

1. Encourage players that beat cones on sides of diamond, to be creative in how they beat the cone.

i.e: 1st touch beats cone; 2nd touch beats cone; creative touch beats cone

2. One two at every station. Timing of supporting runs, weight of different passes, indicators from receiver as to where they want the ball.

Learning Objectives

Pass appreciation. Movement to create seperation.

Technical

Passing/Receiving basics. Dribbling/Tricks

Tactical

Movement to receive and create a 1v1

Physical

Short sharp bursts of pace to support quickly. Medium intensity.

Psychological/Social

Confidence to receive with back foot. Knowledge to know why.

Confidence in possession when dribbling and performing a trick.

Transition Rondo (15 mins)

Set Up

*2 squares set up with 3 teams.

*Bal is played into one square and team must complete a set number of passes before transferring the ball to opposite team.

*2 defenders leave one square and second pair enter opposite square.

Key Points

1. Move the ball quickly

2. Offer clear passing lines

3. When to play forward/When to keep possession.

1v1/2v2/3v3 (20 mins)

Learning Objectives

*Coach starts the practice by giving the ball to either Blue 1 or Red 1.

*Player in posession looks to attack opposite goal and must score within scoring zone

*Defending player tries to gain possession of the ball and attack their goal

*If a team conceed they get an extra player and look to counter attack quickly using the overload advantage

*There should be plenty of oppportunites to coach how to defend the counter attack.

Supporting Front Players in Final Third (25 mins)

Practice Organisation:

*2 Goals

*2 Teams with even numbers with a 2v1 in each defensive third, as illustrated.

*Pitch split into thrids with flat discs.

1. Practice starts with: ball is served into central zone by the coach, the receiving team initiate the attack by playing the ball into striker.

2. Two attacking MF's can release themselves into end zone creating a 3v2, they work the ball to create a goal-scoring oppurtunity.

3. If D's gain possession: they transfer the ball into central area, for their team mates to attack.

4. Supporting A's recover into central area.

Variations:

*D's can send one player back from central zone to create a 3v3.

*On gathering the ball the GK can throw into central zone to initiate attack.

Learning Objectives:

1. Looking for opportunity to play forward

2. Timing of runs from MF players - direction of run

3. Angels & distances of support behind

4. Striker securing possession & bringing in MF players

5. Striker looking for opportunity to turn D's & threaten goal with shot of through pass.
