Arrival Activity/Warm-Up (5 mins)

Organisation:

-All players

-Area: quarter of the field

Players dribble through throughout the area to and from different pylons. Practicing ball mastery skills, 1v1 moves, and keep-ups.

Coaching Points:

-Agility, balance, changing speeds/directions

-Close control, lots of touches, use of moves, changes of speed/directions

-Awarness of space/players around them

1v1 Skills (15 mins)

Organization:

-8-10 players

-see diagram for set-up and equipment

-area of approx. 16x12yard (adapt for age/ability/numbers)

-players organized into two teams

-play starts with attacking player dribbling out, defending player must react, and now they compete 1v1 -both players have 2 goals to score in

Possible variations/progressions:

-must finish with non-dominant foot

-stipulate move to use

-time limit to score

Coaching Points:

-close dribbling in tight areas

-accelerate/rwb into open spaces

-get head up to scan for space, goal, defender

-use of both feet and all surfaces of feet

-quick decision-making - use speed or 1v1 skill

-use cuts from earlier in session

-accurate finishing

2v1/2v1 (+1) (15 mins)

Organization:

-8-10 Players

-area: approx. 12x15 (x2)

-see diagram for equipment and set-up

-2v2 small-sided game with 2 floating neutral players creating 3v2 situations

-defending team (team without the ball) must always drop a player back to be GK, thus making it more of a 3v1

-rotate the floating players frequently

Key Points:

-when is a good time to dribble or pass?

-how can you take advantage of the extra player(s) when attacking?

-how can we create chances for 1v1?

-how can communication help us when we attack?

-4v4/5v5 small-sided game with GKs and retreat line

Coaching Points:

- Create space to receive

- Decision making – when to pass, shoot, dribble or run with the ball

- Be positive
