Ball Mastery/Prior to the beginning of session

Organization: open space

6 players or as many as you have at that moment

6 balls(additional available for other arriving players)

Instructions: Players will work on ball mastery with coach

Do this until majority of players arrive or session time begins

Players follow coach's directions and movements

work on L Turn Roll Across Same Foot(ball mastery)

Coaching Points: -correct contact on the ball

-correct surface of the foot

Warm-Up (10 mins)

Organization: Open area

12 players

6 balls (additional on the outside)

Instructions: The player that starts with the ball passess to a player without a ball and presses them as a passive defender

The player receiving the pass beats the pressing player with a fake or feint and accelerates in a new space

The new player on the ball now looks for an open player and repeats the process

Coaching Points:-engage the pressing defender with 1st or 2nd touch

-timing/execution of feint/fake

-cut into space behind defender

Visual Cues:-angle & speed of defender's run

-distance to defender

-space to exploit

Progressions:P-pressing player attempts to win ball now

R-pressing player goes at walking speed

Main Theme (20 mins)

Organization: 20 by 15 area

2 players (1 attacker, 1 defender)

1 ball

Instructions: Defending player starts with the ball

Defending player passes to the attacking player

The attacking player moves out to receive the ball and attempts to beat the defender over their end line

Defending player becomes active on the attacker's first touch and attempts to win the ball

Players rotate roles after each attempt

Award points for successful attempts and keep score

Coaching Points:-commit defender

-play at speed

-attack defender's front foot

-execution of feint/fake

-cut into space behind defender

Visual Cues:-defender's run

-positioning in grid and space to exploit

Progressions:P-defending players now become active on pass

R-attackers start with ball

Main Theme 2 (20 mins)

Organization: 40 by 40 area

12 players (5 attackers, 5 defenders, 2 GKs)

lots of balls by defending players starting position

Instructions: The game starts with one of the defending players making a diagonal pass to one of the attacking players

The attacker must attempt to beat the defender out of the square and shoot on the goal behind them

The defending players must attempt to stop them leaving the square over there end or side line

Once the attacker is out of the square the defender is beat and cannot recover

The game restarts with the next players

After each attempt each player returns to their starting position

Rotate attackers and defenders after a set time interval

Coaching Points:-positive first touch

-timing/execution

-play at speed

-cut into space behind defender

Visual Cues:-defenders run

-distance to defender

Progressions:P- play 1 v 2 to goal

R-allow attackers to start with the ball

Conditioned Game (20 mins)

Organization: 40 by 25 area

6 players (2 teams of 3)

1 ball (additional on the outside)

Instructions: The game always starts with a pass from the GK

The player that receives the ball plays 1 v 1 against their opponent to goal

The other two players remain inactive until the game restarts

If the ball leaves the area, the game restarts with the opposition GK

The GK should look to pass to the best placed forward

Coaching Points:-maintain depth

-check away from defender

-play at speed

-know when to hold, when to turn, & when to shoot

-receive the ball sideways

Visual Cues:-defender's positioning

-flight of ball

-space to exploit

Progressions:P-play 2 v 2

R-allow attacker 1 touch before defender can tackle

Free Play/Scrimmage (20 mins)

Organization: two 20 by 20 areas

4 teams of 5 players(20 players total)

1 ball per game(additional on the outside)

Instructions: Teams play small sided games 5 v 5

regaular game rules apply(corner kicks, goal kicks, throw-ins)

play for a set time and then rotate teams

if ball goes out of bounds, play is restarted with throw-in

if goal is scored, scoring team must have all of their players run back and touch their goal, before being allowed to defend

Coaching Points: -play at speed

-attack front foot of defender

-once defender is beat, take space behind defender

-timing/execution of fake/feints

- body poistioning-low center of gravity

Visual Cues: -does defender pressure or delay

-positioning of 2nd defender(is there space behind 1st dfender we can exploit)
