Phase 2

Team Learning Objectives

- Playing out from the back

Session Organisation

- As shown/previous

How to Play

- As before but team operates from different start points:

> From GK

> Opposition striker having a shot on goal

> Through ball into the corner

Progressions

- Blues can take the time to decide whether they will press or hold

- Blue WILL press

Patterns

- #5 & #6 split, can operate down the side of the box when necessary

- #2 & #3 push on to create space and engage defenders

- #4 looks to drop in to offer between centre halves

- If pressured, #4 clears out and midfield diamond rotates

- #11 and #7 push on to outside shoulders of two opposing centre mids with #8 looking to play in between the lines

- If under pressure #5 or #6 can look to move centrally and create space for a midfielder to drop in between the centre back and the full back. When pressured by front 2 a centre mid is expected to drop in and play 3 across the back

* Keys to creating space

> #7, #8 and #11 must play high to take opposing midfielders away.

> Back four push up towards the half way line before dropping back into position once the goalkeeper has placed ball and is ready to play (triggers).

- Movement to create space

- Receiving skills/Awareness
