Attacking 1

Having two players on the ball (A and B) gives some different options that can be done. Generally player B will run over the ball first and continue running wide and up the channel, Player A now has the choice of eitehr playing player B for a cross, putting in a ball for the three runners, laying the ball off to player C, or shooting. Player C is placed in an area where he/she can win any balls celared out of the box, and is also support for the free kick directly. The remaining players are used as runners into the box, generally one near post, far post, and one toward the middle of the goal.

Attacking 2

Having one or two players on the sid of the wall gives some new and different options. This set up still has the player outside the box to win cleared balls as well as support the free kick, and also still has the runners into the box. Now players B and C can be used to make runs off the wall to get wide for a cross or can make runs into the box to finish as well. Player A may be able to play into the feed of player B or C for a combo into goal.

Defending

Main ponits on defensive set pieces:

Set the wall so that the widest player in the wall is lined up a little wider than between the near post and the ball (an extra half a body or so). If the opposing team is sending runners into the box you will want to used defenders to man mark the runners (A, B, and C). Player D is an attacker left high for a coutner attack, I like to use this player to stand behind the ball to help set the wall and that way they can see what the kick-takers are seeing so they can make any other necesary adjustments.

Setting a Wall

General standard for how many players to use in a wall based on where the kick is being taken. However, some do prefer to only use one less is the wider 2 and 3 areas. This is jsut based on coaches preferene.
