If entire group is successful move players further apart (25yards)

Coaching Points:

Passing Technique: inside of foot, heel down toe up (check mark), none kicking foot beside ball

Receiving Technique: inside of foot, similar shape to when passing

Ajax square (15 mins)

Ajax square: 20x20 diamond (use multiple if needed). Each player stands at a cone with one ball starting at a corner, players pass the ball around the outside of the diamond then follow their pass. When a player is ready to receive a pass they back away from cone to create a little space to receive. Play going to the right first (passing and receiving with righ foot) then switch directions to go to the left (passing and receiving with left foot).

Progression: If applicable add a second ball with the balls starting on opposite sides of the diamond

Coaching Points:

Still make sure passing and receiving technique are correct

Where do you want to play the pass?

Which foot should you receive the pass with? Receive ball across body, foot that is furthest away. This also allows you to play more quickly.

Which foot should you play the pass with? Right when going right, left when going left.

Timing! When do you start backing away from cone? Soon as player with ball is ready to pass

Do you want to back away from cone and stand to wait to receive ball or back away from cone while ball is travelling towards you?

Cone represents a defender, why is it important to time when you back away from cone?

What will the defender do if you move too early?

2v2+1 (20 mins)

Using a 20x30 grid play 2v2 plus a neutral player to endzones. One team has a collection of ball, initiate game by playing ball to opposing team. Teams score by passing to a teammate in the endzone, must be a pass. When a team scores or the ball goes out of play both sets of players are off and 2 new players from each team play anew game.

Progression: Go to two small goals on each endline and apply offside rule.

Main points: How might you reduce time between first touch and pass? Receive ball across body which also allows you to play forward.

What might you do to create space to receive ball from teammate under pressure? Back pedal to receive ball across body just like in previous activity.

When do you play to teammate's feet/ when to play in space?
