Warm up (10 mins)

Organization:

Group of two with one ball

open space

30 yards apart ( depends on players ability)

Instructions:

Pass in pairs

- Low driven ball

- Lofted passes

- Receive with any surface of the body

Coaching Points:

Driven Pass

Angle of approch

Head up to observe target

Placement of non-kicking foot

Hitting ball slightly off center – opposite to kicking foot

Body weight over ball (this is effected by placement of non-kicking foot)

2nd knuckle of big toe

Lofted pass

1. Approach the ball at an angle.

2. Long stride to the ball.

3. Plant foot to the side and behind the ball.

4. Long free leg swing, straightening on contact.

5. Contact the ball with the inside of the instep and a firm ankle.

6. Lean back strike under the ball.

Main Activity 1 (15 mins)

Organization:

Half Pitch

40x30

Instructions:

- Build up play using patterns as shown for a cross

Coaching Points:

Runners:

- Time runs to 1st post, 2nd post and penalty spot on visual cue from crosser ( when crosser looks down to cross)

- Keeping eye on ball and Judging speed and height of the ball

- Angle of Approach

- Taking the ball at the correct height to get the best possible strike on the ball

- Use any surface to strike

Crosser:

- Look up to observe GK and choose runner, low to first post, Back pass to penalty spot, High cross to second post

- Placement of non-kicking foot to help the ball stay low (closer to ball) or higher (slightly behind)

- Contact on ball to ensure ball stays at correct height

- 2nd post - Header or look to set back to 1st post or pk spot

Finishing (Ball coming across your body)

Judge the speed of the ball

Angled approach

Position of non-kicking foot

Contact on ball (changes with technique used)

Locking ankle

Follow through

Observing GK to determine which technique is most appropriate

Finishing (From Angles)

Observe the GK

Choose correct surface based on the position of the GK

High and in top corner of near post (tough position for GK to guard against)

Across goal if have gap (use inside of foot to curl) or team mates are coming in

Ball movement to shift GK

Toe poke to strike before GK can get set

Deception of body to move GK

Finishing (Headers and Volleys)

Keeping eye on ball and Judging speed and height of the ball

Placement of non-kicking foot to help the ball stay low (closer to ball) or higher (slightly behind)

Contact on ball to ensure ball stays at correct height

Observation of GK to determine technique
