Passing Practice (15 mins)

Football Problem

We are not using the individual skill our wide players have to create a goal scoring opportunity.

Session Objective

In this session I aim to improve our use of individual skill in our wide players to create goal scoring opportunities.

Frame

Last weekend we were very narrow and predictable against Northcote. We did not utilize our strengths out wide in attack.

Tonight we are going to move the ball wide to our 7 & 11 and encourage them to be creative.

If we are successful with this, it means we will have more avenues to goal this week against Bentleigh Greens.

Organisation

Players set up as shown in the diagram executing the pattern of play shown by the arrows

After completing the pattern of play the players move along in this order:

#3 moves to #10, #10 moves to #2, #2 moves to #7, #7 moves to #9 and #9 moves to opposite grid.

Change direction so ball delivered from the wide area is also from the left (No.11)

Progression

Passive defenders introduced at 7 & 11 location, so wingers can attempt to get some space, or get past, to then play to the 9.

Team Task : Move the ball quickly to 7 or 11, and then see if they can get an avenue to goal.

Player Tasks : All - Good technique on their passing.

7 & 11 - Can you beat 2 or 5 to open up space.

Coaches Cues : Ball speed - maintain tempo.

Positioning Game

Organisation

Teams play a 4 v 3 in each grid with the attacking team of 4 trying to score in the big goal after beating a player in wide areas.

One Grid has two small goals if only one keeper availible.

Attacking team can use the coach who has limited touches

Spare player feeds second grid and rotates regularly with other players.

If the defending team win the ball they try to score in the small goals as quickly as they can.

Restarts from the coach / spare player.

Team task.

To beat a player from a wide position, and create a goal scoring opportunity.

Game Training (25 mins)

Game Training

Organisation

Teams play a 8 v 7

Two wide zones as shown in the diagram.

The Blue can have their 4 wide players in the wide zones at all times while the White team can only defend with one defender in either wide zone at any time.

8 plays in, and is instrucuted to stay around the centre circle to act as a bouncer (do not push forward).

Blue team encouraged to find their wide players and "take on" their opponent to create a scoring opportunity.

If white wins possesion, they have ten seconds to score in the two wide goals.

If the ball goes out of play, blue restarts from the 8.

Offside rule applies.

Team Task

Create a goalscoring opportunity by individual skill in wide areas.

Player Tasks

Maintain ball speed.

Can we work the opposition defence from side to side to create a 1v1 on the opposite side by quick ball movement.

Be patient, do not "force it". The defence is organized, so try to unsettle them with your ball movement.

Player Cues

All When in possesion, can you maintain ball speed and hit your teamates feet?

7 & 11 When the 10 has the ball, can you see him?

7 & 11 When recieving the ball, can you be facing forward?

7 & 11 Can you lose your opponent with a good first touch?

7 & 11 Can you beat your opponent 1v1 t create space?

7 & 11 If you have beat your opponent can you take shot.

All If the wide player has beaten his opponent, can you be ready in a shooting position to receve the ball?

10 If the wide player is in possesion, can you hit the top of the box to receive a pass and shoot.

9 If the wide player has beaten his man, can you lose your marker in the box?

7 & 11 If you have beaten your man, can you find a teamate in a goalscoring position?

2 & 5 When 7 or 11 have posession, can you get around the outside and overlap?

2 & 5 If in possesion in a overlap position, can you drive into the box or find a teamate in a goalscoring position?
