5 colour cone call (15 mins)

Cones set out as shown. (This can be performed with more than one pair of keepers at a time)

Keeper starts on green cone (everything that happens in this drill goes through the greene cone). Coach calls a colour and the keeper has to go to that cone and touch it and return to the greene cone. 

Coaching point - If coach calls cone colour towards back keeper turn body slightly to that side and use short steps in a backward motion to get the (the opposite for front cones).

3 x 1min (Calls must be rapid to ensure a good work out)

Keepers paired up - each have a goal

Goals - 20yd apart

Warm up - Footwork (15 mins)

Organization:

4 Players set up as shown

area is 10X10 yard square

One ball

Instructions:

- Goalkeepers are to stand 3 yards away from cone

- passes are made with either left foot in left direction/right foot in right direction

- passes are made using two touches first to receive second to pass

Coaching Points:

-passes should be sharp out of the feet

- pass the ball to teammates/goalkeepers leading foot

- communication about where to pass or what foot to pass to

- open body motion/angle of approach before receiving pass

Progressions:

P1 - goalkeepers must receive with one foot and pass with the other

P2 - goalkeepers must receive and pass with the same foot

P3 - Goalkeepers are only allowed one touch

NEAR POST DIVING WITH RECOVERY (15 mins)

Near Post Diving with Central Recovery

Next, the practice should include a dive at the near post (to simulate a near post shot, or across the box cross) before recovering to make a simple catch at from (2).

1) This server can pass the ball along the ground or place the ball for a collapsing save to the goalkeepers left (servers right), for the goalkeeper to dive and collect.

A recovery run should then be made in order to get into line for a straight catch from (2)

This practice can then be flipped on its head, where (1) provides a straight catch and (2) provides an angled shot. Using an angled shot is best practice as it gives one side of near side and one far side for the goalkeeper to cover.
