Session Area

20 x 25 yard area

Set Up

8 Players.

2 teams of 3 vs each other with two floating players who can play on either side.

Players aim to keep the ball in a 5v3 scenarios.

Key Points

Ensure pitch is as big as possible.

Players not to go towards player who is in possessio but come away making area as big as possible.

Challenges

5 passes gives a team a goal

5 1 touch passes gives a team a goal

Transitional play drill

Session Area

Game played in the 18 yard box plus 5 yards each side.

4v4 with a floater goalkeeper who serves and can play on both sides without being tackled on edge of area.

Other goalkeeper their to save efforts on goal.

Set Up

Server goalkeeper plays to reds to start whose aim is score as soon as opportunity arises.

Server can be used as extra man through out exercise.

If whites win the ball back they must get the ball to the server and then they can attack.

If goalkeeper makes a save and catches the ball he must either throw or kick the ball to goalkeeper server who will start an attack for the opposite side.

Key Points

2 Players high, two players deep again ensuring pitch is as big as possible.

Back foot to recieve allowing a quick turn when possible

Early shots when opportunities arise.

Challenges

Team must score within three passes or loses possesion to other side

Movement and finishing

Session Area

1 cone 5 yards in from halfway line with second cone 10 yards further forward.

2 further cones places 2 yards in from the corner of each 18 yard box

Set Up

Player starts with the ball on the first cone and passes to second player on the second cone.

After breaking sideways and recieving the ball on back foot passes across to furthest forward player away who turns on one touch before shooting.

All players move on to station they have just passed to with the player who has shot retrieving his ball and going back to the start.

Key Points

Passes must have pace on them enabling a quick counter attack.

Second player recieving (central midfielder) must make a two yard movement to one side before breaking across to the other reciving on his back foot and playing diagonal pass. Movement is vital to bring away defender.

Midfielder should not come to the ball but break sideways to ensure pitch remains as big as possible.

Forward player must turn on back foot with good control and look to strike at goal across the goalkeeper.

Challenges

Split into two groups and competing to see who scores the most goals in a 2 minute peiod.
