Juggling Warm-Up (10 mins)

Organization:

In a 30x40 yard grid, each Player with a ball.

Instructions:

"Sequencial Passing(juggling) Challenge". One partner tosses the ball to the other partner who has 1 touch to play (juggle) a pass back to the tosser; who then has 2 touches to get it back to their partner; who then has 3 touches

Coaching Points:

Players try to improve their touches (suppleness, control and foot-eye coordination) by juggling with different surfaces of their feet & body.

SAQ & Ball Mastery (10 mins)

Organization:

12 players in a 2 lane grid, 10x20 yards.

Instructions:

- Players form 2 lines in each lane and go through a variety of dynamic stretches in 2 lines.

- Introduce a ball to include various dynamic & dribbling moves

- Add any static stretches as needed.

Combinations & Finishing I (15 mins)

Organization:

- 5 x 5 Gates set up as shown (x2)

- 10-12 Players

- 1 Ball per group (additional on side)

Instructions:

- Activity always starts by Attacker between the gate checking away & back again to receive pass

- Team mate at the front off the line acts as the server & support player

(Sequence A)

- Attacker checks away & back before receiving pass. 1st touch is taken outside of gate & into wide area

- Once in wide area Attacker picks uphead & looks to cross/cut back for team mate

- Server makes run forward towards the box ready for the cut back - finish with one touch!

- Players rejoin oppsite side & wait in line

(Sequence B)

- Attacker checks away & back before receiving pass. He/she sets ball back 1st time & spins away(RorL)

- Server now becomes support & plays a through ball for attacker

- Attacker now 1 on 1 with keeper has two touches maximum to finish

- Server now becomes next attacker. Player who shoots joins opposite group line

Coaching Points:

- Check on eye contact, connection & 1st touch

- Quality of pass (make sure of weight and accuracy)

- Observe position/pressure of defender

- Execution of combination; timing & speed. Whats the defenders position?

- Finshing type: Power vs Finesse?

- Observe position of goalkeeper before shooting

Progressions:

P - Introduce Passive Defender for Attacker to shake off & link the play around (see diagram)

P - Attacker that shoots can now become Defender for opposite group attacker

Combinations & Finishing II (15 mins)

Organization:

- 20 x 20 diamond setup as shown

- 12 Players (10 attackers & 2 defenders)

- 2 balls (additional on outside)

Instructions:

- Players in groups of 3 aim to create combination moves and finish at goal

- (Sequence A) Ball is played into top player, set back & then played through for 3rd man run

- (Sequence B) Ball is played into top player, set back & then played through for overlapping runner

- Once played in on goal Attackers aim to finish before defender closes them down & intercepts/blocks

- Defenders cannot close down until ball is played through on goal

Coaching Points:

- Check on eye contact, connection & 1st touch

Small Group Finishing (20 mins)

Organization:

- 1/2 Field setup as shown

- 12 Players (8 Attackers, 4 Servers, 1 Coach/Server)

- 1 ball per server (additional on the side)

Instructions:

- Split the Attackers into 2 even teams & assign them colors

- 4 Servers are placed either side & around the penalty area in attacking 1/3

- On Coach command one attacker from each group runs toward goal 1v1

- As they run coach calls out a number that corresponds to server...that server plays a ball in

- Attackers aim to win possession of the ball & finish past the keeper

- As soon as goal is scored, a shot is saved or shot goes out of bounds next two attackers begin running

- After set time rotate the serving players

Coaching Points:

- Observe position/pressure of defender

- Assess flight of ball from server. Get body in correct position to; shoot or shield?

- Reaction to server. Movement off the ball; acceleration, anticipation

- Finshing type: Power vs Finesse?

- Observe position of goalkeeper before shooting

Progressions:

P - Coach calls 2 numbers

P - Attackers have time limit to score once ball is in play

P - Coach calls two numbers. Second number/server comes in to act as support player; combination/decoy?

P - Two attackers enter (2v2)

Conditioned Game I (20 mins)

Organization:

- Penalty Area set up as shown

- 13 Players (6 Attackers, 6 Servers/Support & 1 Goalkeeper)

- 1 Ball (additional on outside with coach)

Instructions:

- Organize players into two teams. 6 Attackers start on inside of area (3v3) whilst 6 players act as servers

- Servers are placed around all sides of penalty area & play two touch maximum

- Coach starts game by play ball nto area. Attackers aim to win the ball & begin attacking

- Attacking team in possesion must combine with outside player before shooting at goal

- Defending team can aim to win ball back. They must in turn combine with outside players before shooting

- Play until goal is scored or ball goes out of bounds before serving in a new ball

- After set time rotate teams and servers

Coaching Points:

- Observe position/pressure of defender

Conditioned Game II (20 mins)

Organization:

- Two areas setup as shown (Zone A & Zone B)

- 13 Players (10 Attackers, 2 Supports/Defenders & 1 Goalkeeper)

- 1 Ball (Additonal on outside)

Instructions:

- Organize players into two teams

- In Zone A teams play 5v5 possession game. In Zone B select one player from each team as Defenders

- Aim is for Attacking team in Zone A to play through ball to Zone B for team mate to score

(Zone A)

- Team in possession must make 5 consecutive passes before playing through ball

- Attacker cannot enter Zone B until passes have been made. Time the run!

(Zone B)

- Defenders in this Zone must follow the game & be ready to react

- Once a team plays an attacker into Zone B defenders become active

- One defender turns into support player whilst the other remains as a defender(see diagram; White Attack)

- Attacking team now play 2v1 & aim to finish at goal. Use support player to combine or as a decoy

- If Defender wins the ball they aim to pass to their team in Zone A

- Play until goal is scored or ball goes out of bounds

- If goalkeeper saves he/she distributes ball to defending team in Zone A. Activity continues

- After set time rotate Defenders in Zone B

Coaching Points:

- Circulate possession, create gaps to exploit & play between the lines

- Type & Weight of through ball; ground, air, scoop over top?

- Timing of movement & run in behind to Zone B

- Execution of combination; timing & speed. Whats the defenders position?

- Finshing type: Power vs Finesse?

- Observe position of goalkeeper before shooting

Progressions:

P - Time limit to score in Zone B

P - One Defender can track attacker into Zone B to create a 2v2
