Ball Manipulation (10 mins)

Free Play Ball Manipulation Skills

Set up:

* 30 x 30 yard area

* Each player with a ball

Instructions:

* Players perform a ball manipulation skill

* Either players perform a skill and break into a new space then continue and repeat

or players perform skill and upon coaches call 'break!' players accelrate into a new space and continue skill.

* To vary intensity, players may be challenged to try new ways of getting and keeping the ball off the floor, demonstarted by the coach or players.

* A triggerman is designated by the coach secretly from players to perform a skill, players must then copy who is doing something different to the others.

Screen 2 (20 mins)

Organization:

-Full half of the field with 2 boxes for targets (goals for defenders) and a box with balls for a server to start the phase.

-Defending team will be set up with a back 4 and 3 central midfield players (2 holding 1 attacking).

-Attacking team will play with 3 central players and 3 attacking players.

-The server will only act to serve the ball in for attacking team when directed by the coach.

-2 yellow players occupy the box and act as neutral players for tragets to defenders to score and also as a restart players for the attacking team.

Objective:

-The attacking team will try to score on the large goal after being served the ball from the server.

-The defending team will try to defend there goal and if they win the ball play to one of the neutral players.This neutral player will then switch the ball to the other neutral players who will serve in to the attacking team and play will restart.

Coaching Points and key factors:

-general shape and compactness of defending team

-shifting maintaining compactness with balance as ball travels

-depth of support in relation to players intent on the ball or (pressure delay or intercept or no pressure on the ball drop off together)

-moving as a unit to regain space when ball has been played forward including goalkeeper

-Communication

-Identifying the key threat

-Knowing the intent of the player on the ball

-Awareness of other teamates posistioning.

-Body positioning

Screen 3 (15 mins)

Progression:

Attacking team will now be introduced 2 fullback players

Role of that player is not to dribble and touches can be limited if needed

Coaching Points:

Same as above as applicable
