2 man keep-away (20 mins)

Organization:

-20x20 yard grid (or bigger if space permitts) divided in half with equal number of players in each; if there is an odd number make one neutral that follows the ball.

-serve a ball into one side of the grid and have players from the team enter to put pressure; start with one and progress.

-object for the team in possession is to complete passes in increments of 10 (10 passes=1 point).

-if the team that is chasing wins the ball they can either: kick it out to have the drill re-start on their side, or win the ball and switch it to their side for a point as well.

Progression:

1) move to 2 players pressuring at a time.

2) limit touches to 3, then 2 then try 1 if you think they can handle it.

Coaching Points:

-movement off the ball.

-rotation of positions/players.

-decision making

-ball pursuit; part of possession is winning the ball back quickly.

3v2 Continuous Game (25 mins)

Organization:

-divide your working area in half and run 2 activities side-by-side if possible.

-instead of 2 goals, (you can use one central mini-goal)

-one team brings the ball in and plays 3v2 until they lose possession or the ball goes out.

-if the ball goes out of bounds, play restarts by a 3rd player from the team that had 2 joining with the ball; if the team with 2 wins possession, they must restart by playing back to the player outside on their end of the grid. In both cases, the team with 3 must have one player leave the grid to make it 3v2 the other way.

--teams score a point by passing the ball into the oppositions pugg net(or between discs). The player must be beyond the opponents restraining line to score a goal.

Progression:

1) Limit the touches of the team with 3 players.

2) Make all goals 1st time finish only.

Coaching Points:

-Patience in possession

-decision making

-accurate passing

-timing of penetration

-changing point of attack
