Progression Start to Finishing (25 mins)

1.Play is started in Zone A with M1 dropping back to receive ball

2.M3 provides pressure and continues pressure only while ball is Zone A. All neutrals Y1 Y2 G1 may not enter defensive third.

3. Ball must be played across to Zone B using combination play using All D1,D2, D3 and GK players. D's may play into Y1 or Y2 but Y players must play the ball back to D1, D2 or D3 players or GK. Y's can only progress out of Zone 2 into Zone C or D if receiving from M players.

4. The ball must continue to Zone 3 where M3 and M4 are in 1 v 1 situation. If M2 has no options forward the ball may be played back into Zone B but now ball must travel across to Zone A into Zone 1. Every time the ball is played backward from M players to their defenders ball must travel across the back line to opposite sides.

5. Before ball can enter Zone C or D M2 or M1 must have cobination play with Y2 or Y1. M2 or M1 must wait for ball back from Y1 or Y2 before entering Zone C or D. Y2 has option of combination play with Y1. Once combination play has happened all M1, Y1, Y2 and M2 may enter Zones C and D for a 4 v 3.

6. The job of G1 is to put pressure on Y1 and Y2 in Zone 2 only. G1 always stay in Zone 2. If G1 wins ball he must play the ball backward to defensive. The defense that Y's are challenging. The cycle would start again. If any of the defensive M players win the ball while in Zone 1 or Zone 3 they would pass the ball back to their defense and the cycle would start again.

Coaching Points:

This forces you to use your back line to switch fields. No long balls out of the back (No dump and run).

Encourage patience and any sign of pressure in the middle of the field have players pass the ball back to defenders. Switch field often so they can build a rhythm and start the cycle again.

Due to only pressure from one player in defensive end the ball should be moving as fast as possible when switching fields through the defense. When the cycle starts D players must be deeper than other D players in order to safely switch fields. Have D players let the ball roll across their body instead of stopping the ball and then passing again.

The grid is wide to spread defenders and create passing lanes.

When M players are playing forward to Zone 2 encourage give and gos or overlapping runs by Y's around M's, or overlaps by Y's around Y's. You can play the ball wide and work on crosses having Y's running near and middle posts and far M player running far post.

Change out G1 player. Adjust field size if certain zones are to small or big.

Change of Position Restart (25 mins)

7. If ball is won by defense during the 4 vs 3 all players must drop back to respective zones except nearest flank player who is closest to ball from Zone 1 or Zone 3.  For Example if D4 wins ball Y1 Y2 M2 drop back M1 applies pressure only in Zone C while ball moves from Zone C to Zone D.

8. Cycle starts again.

9. If team scores ball is played in defensive end Zone D or C.

10. Cycle starts again.

Restart Blue Possession (25 mins)

Blue restart after winning the ball in their defensive end. Won ball in Zone C need to switch to Zone D

Pressure from M1

Options: Change ball flow direction after switching fields by having D players play into Y players first. Y players must have combination play with Y or combination play with M's in Zone 1 or Zone 2 before entering into  Zones A and B.

Limit to 3 touches, Reward for overlapping runs by having G1 enter into final third as a 5 offensive player.  Make D players use goal keeper when switching fields.
