Receiving Game

Organization:

Players will be at cones positioned at opposite ends of the field they will be paired up, and each team has a ball with their partner across from them.

Instructions:

Players will partner up with the objective being to score as many ponts as possible in two minutes. The object of the game is to receive the ball as close to the cone as possible. Each player only has one touch, so it should be good.

Coaching Points:

Keep your eye on the ball

As the ball comes down, move with the ball

"Soft feet" Be gentle with the ball

Keep your head up

Look for the space

First touch should go into the space

Progressions:

Players can progress to an underhand throw to their partner.

Receiving and Dribbling

Organization:

Players will all be given ball in a scrimmage sized grid to dribble around freely in order to work on their footwork.

Instructions:

Players will dribble around freely until the coach places the condition that when the coach says "Go" they will throw the ball up, and bring it down with their laces, then inside of the foot, then outside of their foot. The next condition is that instead of "Go" it will be every five dribbles.

Coaching Points:

Keep your eye on the ball

As the ball comes down, move with the ball

"Soft feet" Be gentle with the ball

Keep your head up

Look for the space

First touch should go into the space

Receiving Drill

Organization:

Players will be set up in a scrimmage sized grid, and will have a small box (5yards by 5yards). Players will be split in half, and only half will have a ball.

Instructions:

Players will start split in half. Half will be on the outside of the small square and the other half will be on the inside of the square without a ball. Players will check to a player on the outside, and receive the ball out of the air. They must run through the square before they can check to another player. Players will work for 90 seconds at a time.

Coaching Points:

Keep your eye on the ball

As the ball comes down, move with the ball

Keep your head up

Receiving Conditioned Game

Organization:

Players will be set up in a scrimmage sized grid with four small windows at each corner of the grid.

Instructions:

Players will score points by passing the ball into someone who runs into the window. The player must recieve the ball inside the cones in order to score points.

Coach will then add in a goal.

Coaching Points:

Keep your eye on the ball

As the ball comes down, move with the ball

"Soft feet" Be gentle with the ball

Keep your head up

Look for the space

First touch should go into the space
