Warm up (15 mins)

Warm up - ALL AGES - Knock out

Organisation:

20 yard circle area.

Instruction:

All players dribbling with their own ball.

Must try to knock out other balls while keeping possession of their own.

Progression:

Make space smaller.

Dribble with weaker foot only.

Regression:

Make space bigger.

Competitive:

How many can you knock out in a minute?

Coaching points:

Avoid being knocked out.

Look for, and sprint into the open space.

Try to feint and change direction against other players.

Main Theme (25 mins)

Organization:

40 x 30 yard area set up as shown

10 players (8 attackers, 2 goalkeepers) set up as shown

8 balls (Additional around the outside)

Instructions:

- Players each start out with a ball at the end line to the right of the goalkeeper

- Each player then takes their turn running out to the mannequin (or marker) with the ball, turning, take a set up touch before getting a shot on goal

- Once they shoot they must then sprint as fast as they can through the flags at the end line to the left of the goalkeeper.

Coaching Points:

- Angle of approach off center

- Observe the position of the goalkeeper

- Non-kicking foot is placed to the side and slightly behind the ball

- Contact foot- Instep (Laces)

- Follow through and land on striking foot

Progressions:

- P – Allow the attackers to follow in for rebounds before sprinting through the flags.

- R – Shorten the length of the field so players can get more shots on goal.

Main Theme (25 mins)

Organization:

- 12 to 16 players

- Each player with ball

- 2 pugg goals (or 2 big goals + GK)

- Area 25x25 yards

Instructions:

A-Player dribbles to first cone at full speed then stops ball just before cone.

B-Player sprints to right hand cone and changes direction quickly to get to opposite ball

C-Player shoots at goal

*Repeat drill on the left hand side for a left foot strike at goal

Conditioned Game (20 mins)

Organization:

6v6

40x30 yard area

Instructions:

- One player allowed in opposition half at a time to close down when defending and act as target man when in possession.

- Second player may join if direct ball played into their team's target man.

Coaching Points:

- Striking technique.

- Shoot when opportunity arises.

- Type of shot - Decision making.

- Find target player early.

- Movement off the ball.

- Speed of play.

Progression:

- Limit touches.

Regression:

- Remove halfway line restriction.
