Description

This session is designed to work the players fitness and technical skills. From a tactical standpoint, we are looking to have the players move the ball quickly and retain possession. By the time we get to the game, players should be looking to find opportunities to score.

SAQ Activity (15 mins)

Warm Up Phase 1: SAQ Activities

We begin by having the players split into three groups to perform a series of SAQ Activities such as ladders, hurdles and cones. The players must perform the quick footwork through the various activities before recieving the ball from a player at the opposite side. After the players make the pass and stop it, they return to their group. Play is continuous.

1) Ground Pass - Players take a touch and return the ball

2) Ariel Pass - Players control the ball out of the air and return the ball

3) Throw Ins - Players control the ball and return it to the player who through the ball

To progress and/or add a further fitness element, remove the soccer balls and have the players sprint to the end cone and then rotate through the various stations.

SAQ Activity Progression (5 mins)

Warm Up Phase 1: SAQ Activities Progression

To progress and/or add a further fitness element, remove the soccer balls and have the players sprint to the end cone and then rotate through the various stations. When they sprint to the end cone, they jog slowly to the next station for recovery. This will serve as interval training.

Possession (20 mins)

Warm Up Phase 2: Possession Play

Split players into groups of four. Have two target players on the end lines. Players play 4v4 in the central area with targets on the end line. We are looking for the players to make good decisons on and off the ball and find space to support the play. Encourage positive play and look to play forward. The first option should be to play long and move the ball quickly. Look to see if players can maintain possession and find the space to penetrate the opposition.

7v7 Game (50 mins)

Now split the players into two teams. Players play a regular game with goalkeepers. Normal rules apply. Stop the play to make tactical points and ensure that the players are looking to make the right decisions and be positive in their play. FIFA Laws Apply.
