Warm--Up (20 mins)

Organization

Players play 4 v 4. Team in possession scores by hitting the large cones. When score a goal, the scoring team retains possession.

Possession:

Overload one team ie 4 v3 with a neautral player playing for the team in possession to create a 5v3.

Coaching Points:

1) Close space quickly

2) Correct body shape to "force" predictable play

3) Decision making when to be aggressive to win ball

Technique (10 mins)

Organization:

Player 1 (Red) plays ball to player 2 (Blue). Receiving player attempts to dribble through one of three gates to score

Progression:

2v2 and then 3 attackers v 2 defenders.

Coaching Points:

1) Close space quickly

2) Body shape - force attacker away from gate

3) Quick feet to react to attacking movements

Tactical (20 mins)

Organization:

Two player targets (Green) pass back and forth until one of the red attackers lose their marker to receive. 3 reds play against 1 blue in midfield area and aim to create attacking movements to attack the back three in the defensive third and score a goal. If defenders win the ball they can score by playing ball to the feet of one of two green targets.

Coaching Points: (Defending)

1) Apply early pressure on ball when a) opponents play back b) Poor 1st touch by opponents c) When a receiving player has back to goal

2) Body position to dictate where attacker goes

3) Change of direction/pace to keep up with attackers movements

4) Communication by defending unit

SSG (20 mins)

Organization:

6 v 6 game where every player is paired off with another player on the opposing team. Players can only tackle the player that they are paired against. Each team has a sweeper who is limited to 2 touches and cannot be tackled.

Coaching Points:

1) Focus on man-marking responsabilities when team defending

2) Disciplined when joining attacks to create overloads - can I get back in transition

3) Defensive unit should press when a) good pressure on ball, b) poor 1st touch by opponents c) opponents play backwards
