Goal Kicks

LA Stars Premier Game Day Formation (Scenario B) for Goal Kicks:

The focus on for this particular Goal Kick scenario is to create an alternative to scenario (A) by creating the option of keeping possession from the goal kick through simple movement.

1. Set up as shown in the diagram. Make sure the player taking the goal kick, and players 3, 4 & 6 are setting up to with the intention of performing scenario (A).

2. Once the set up is in place, player 5 makes a run to the outside of the box and takes an opposition player with him creating space for a pass into player 7.

3. The key fundamental here is not the actual movement or pass. The movement and pass are the focus. The key fundamental is the reaction of players 2, 3, 4, & 5 to regain a defensive shape as the ball is travelling to player 7.

4. As the ball is traveling to player 7, player 6 can make his way to assist player 7 in keeping possession and to try and provide an attacking option. If player 7 is beaten to the ball or takes a poor touch resulting in an opposition player taking the ball from him, player 6 must take up a defensive position alongside players 2,3,4 & 5. Marking space and engaging players from a defensive shape is vital.
