technical warm up (20 mins)

Organisation:

The distance between player A and B is 5 yds and distance between player B & C & D approx 12 yds between each....

Sequence:

-Player A passes to PLayer B

-PLayer B receives and passes to player C

-Player C passes to Player D, C and D combine for wall pass

-Player D runs with the ball to the end of the opposite line (or if you have a goal/pugg have them finish and then join the end of the opposite lien)

*PLayers all follow their pass to the next disc

*PLayers e,f,g, and h are performing the same pattern at the same time

PLAYERS IN POSITIONS A, B, C, AND D ALL RECEIVE WITH THEIR LEFT FOOT

PLAYERS IN POSITIONS E, F, G, AND H ALL RECEIVE WITH THEIR RIGHT FOOT

COACHING POINTS:

-Opposite movement to the ball by player receiving the ball - (check away)

-communication - verbal & visual (eye contact)

-"check your shoulder" - is there time and space to turn?

-arrive/receive side on (receive on backfoot)

-directional first touch towards your target

-B & F should be square to their disc's to mimic playing on defender's shoulder

-Can B & F eliminate the defender(disc) with your first touch

-accurate and proper speed of pass

Rondos-small group possession (20 mins)

Organization:

Choose 1 of the possession/Rondo activites in the image above...

Rondo 1:

-4 v 2 possession in a 10 x 10 area. Players all operate within the grid.

-award attacking players 1 point if they achieve x amount of predetermined passes..Suggested 5 passes= 1 point

-switch defenders after 90-120 seconds(Manage defenders if necessary to ensure appropriate pressure)

-modify size of grid depending on success of players

possible progressions..

-condition/touch limit on player touches

-decrease size of grid to increase difficulty

Rondo 2:

-5 v 2 within a 15 x 15 grid. 4 attacking players along the perimiter of the grid and 1 attacking player inside v 2 defenders.

-condition touch limit for outside support players(suggested 2 touch)..unlimited for players in grid.

-switch defenders after 90-120 ec

-if the 2 defenders win the ball they try and keep possession v 1 defender to achieve a predetermined number of passes for 1 point. (So the defenders are practicing proactive defending in trying to retain the ball and NOT kicking the ball away).

-award attacking players 1 point if they achieve 5 consecutive passes...

-modify size of grid depending on success of players

possible progression...

-condition player touches.

-increase passing count to score a point

-players must play through central player..

-make grid smaller to increase difficulty

Coaching Points:

-Passing & receiving Key factors

-Support: good angles of support... support- left,right & central..near & far

-Movement: Timely movement to support player with ball. Travel as the ball travels!

-Penetration: Pass between or around defenders to eliminate them

-play away from pressure

-Message in pass - back or front foot(safe side passing )..why?

-Patience while in possession

4 v 4 directional to targets (15 mins)

Organisation

-In an area 25 x 25 teams play 4 v 4 directional to targets. Blues attack north to south, and Reds from east to west. (add neutrals if numbers are odd and/or add a second target if necessary). Try and coach on natural stoppages or within the flow!!

-Players keep possession and seek to pass to support players for a point. They then look to attack in opposite direction.

-When a player passes to a target player they leave the area and the target dribbles into the grid and seeks to attack in the opposite direction

Coaching Points

-Dispersal/width: Get BIG when your team has the ball! Stretch the field..

-Depth/Support: The player on the ball has support within 360 degress, near, far timely support

-Movement/mobility: move to receive

-Penetration: Can you pass around or between players

-Creativity

-3 P's - posession, patience, penetration

-Re-load!
