Dynamic Composed Finishing (25 mins)

14 Players - 3 groups of 4 and 2 GK's with Half field set up. Middle players (blue) represent LM and RM (or LW and RW).

Begin with small pattern play - 1st red player passes ball to teammate and overlaps. Teammate receiving pass releases diagonal through ball to outside player, and follows his pass in towards goal like original passer who overlapped.

Progressions #1:

Outside player recives ball and dribbles towards endline, crosses ball back in across penalty area:

Coaching Points:

1.Have an attacking state of mind.

2.Play to forward foot, positive first touch, good body shape. Receive and pass.

3.Decision of how to attack cross coming in - in full stride or small steps into shot?

Progression #2:

Outside player receives with one touch and then sends diagonal ball in across face of goal for on running attackers ahead of him.

Coaching Points:

1.Attack the ball. Do not wait on the ball.

2.Quality of service, distribution.

3.Timing of runs. Angle of approach - front or back post?

Progression #3:

Outside player receives and makes own decision to play early cross in or dribble to endline with speed and then cross in.

Coaching Points:

1.Speed of play.

2.Quality of service.

3.Visual cues - What tells us about to cross? Might take quick look up, then put head back down and open up body shape just before crossing ball in. What tells us about to dribble to end line? Might put head down, take first touch a little heavier and explode away.
