Passing practice (10 mins)

Main Moment - Defending (and both transitions)

Key Principles

- To deny space and time in our own defensive 3rd

- Win the ball

- Prevent goal scoring opportunities

Sub principles

- pressure instantly when we lose possession if opposition are disorganised or aren't in controlled possession

SET UP

Create an area 20 x 30m with a half way line. Use two teams of six with a ball per team. Place extra balls around he area. Four players from each team play in the middle and one player from each team is onthe outside at each end.

HOW TO PLAY

Each team aims to transfer their ball from one end to the other using their teams outside players. Whichever player passes to the outside player swaps positions with them.

Progression 1 - Teams have 3 players in one half where the ball starts from and one player in the other and after passing into the attacking half can the players create a block for 3 seconds and passivley defend to make it difficult for the opposition.

Progression 3 - Once you've played into other half can two players quickly get across to support

Positional game (20 mins)

SET UP

Create an area 14 x 21m including a 5m centre zone. Place two mini goals at each end. Use three equal teams of four players. Place numerous balls near the centre zone.

HOW TO PLAY

The two teams on the outside aim to transfer the ball through the middle zone on the ground. The middle team try to intercept the pass .If the middle team intercept they then try and score in either goal in the half where the pass came from. One player can enter the opposition area, the other 3 must stay but can swap over. The team that loses the ball defend in the middle.

The game always starts from the coach. Progression - Limit outside players touches.

PLAYER TASKS

Can you be in a position to either win the ball or force play towards your team mates?

Can you either press the ball or drop off?

Can you be ina position to prevent split passes? can you move across the pitch in relation to the ball?
