Warm up: SAQ (10 mins)

Organization:

-13 cones. 1 area setup cones staggered 3 yards side to side, front to back. 1 area setup cones in line with 1.5 feet spacing between cones.

Instructions:

- Go twice through each time. Switch lines after each run through.

Coaching Points:

- Running the knees and light on our feet not stomping down. Balance and control of body.

Progressions:

Cone line:

(1). 2 feet in each

(2). Weave through shuffling side to side.

(3). 2 forward, 1 back through end.

(4). Around each cone figure 8s through the end.

Staggered:

(1). Side to side shuffling.

(2). Hopping 2 feet 1 forward, 1 back to the side.

(3). Hopping with control 1 cone to the next side to side (slow).

(4). Side to side but run around each cone.

Main Activity- 2nd attacker movement (30 mins)

Organization:

Approx 10x20 area. 4 players. 1 ball.

Instructions:

All players begin down the centre line of the area. B begins by checking to either cone. Start without defender, then add blue player as defender once pattern unerstood. The defender follows staying goalside. B sets the ball back for A who plays a first time pass through to C.

Coaching Points:

(1). Open body to see pressure

(2). Communication "feet" - Show front foot with hand (protect ball)

(3). Quality of set - Find A's front foot, take pace off ball

(4). Recognition of 3 lines (my role to open gap)

(5). Timing and quality of movement

(6). Checking of shoulder as they open gap and as ball travels (read movement of defenders / attackers)

(7). Quality of next movement

Progressions:

(1). Non-opposed. Players get used to the pattern and movements.

(2). Semi-opposed. Add blue player as defender. Defender becomes B and A becomes defender. B replaces C's position, C replaces A.

(3). A plays C, C plays to supporting B, back to C who dribbles back.

Conditioned game- 2nd attacker (20 mins)

Organization: 30x30 area. Even teams. 3 v. 3 or 4 v. 4 if possible. 2 targets from each team moving up and down side lines.

Instructions: Try to find player who is open. 8 passes is a point.

Coaching Points:

(1). Movement to open passing lane.

(2). Awareness of pressure as the ball is passed (checking of shoulder)

(3). Angle of support. Player with ball find supporting pass.

(4). Body shape when checking/receiving.

Progressions: (1). Possession- not going to goals yet. Swap target players every 3 minutes. Score points by completing 6 passes. Target players are neutral. (2). 6 passes and then go to either goal. (3). Red team attacks one goal, blue team attacks other goal.

4v4 to Small Goals. (20 mins)

Organization: 4v4 (30x30 yd area) No goalkeepers. Play for 5 minutes then rotate teams.

Instructions:

-Out of Bounds - All players on the opposing team must get their shape. Attacking team will pass to a teammate. First pass is free.
