Warm up (25 mins)

Session Objective: Circle Passing - Ideal as part of warm up.To improve passing and receiving.

Organisation: 12 v 3 (vary numbers according to number of players but 4:1ratio in favour of outside players).

Extensions: development into multiple passing routines.Examples shown but list is endless and allows coach to create.

Example 1).A passes to 1 who feeds 2 who sets 3 who brings ball out.A joins edge of circle.Can vary with pass from 1 to 2 or to 4 and then set back to 3.

Example 2).B passes to 5 who feeds 6 and then drops back two yards.6 feeds 7who passes to B who sets to 5 to bring ball back into circle.

Variations and combinations endless.

Can involve movement around players.Example 3).C plays ball to 8,and runs around 8 and 9.* plays ball to 9m and C collects to bring back into circle.

Key Factors:

1st Touch,

Half Touches, Use of Sole of foot, Disguise.

Type of pass.Weight of pass.

Movement to receive,Body shape,quality of pass. Awareness/Head up

Passing and combination play (25 mins)

Session Objective: To improve passing and combination(1)

Organisation:

Cones set out in two lines as in A.

Practice A

Players in pairs.first player plays ball in frony of other player.Receiving player takes a touch then plays return pass in front of other player.Players continue to top of line of cones.then move across and come back down repeating passing down between cones.Players change sides at the top so that they will use one foot to receive and pass on way up and other foot to receive and pass on way down.repeate three or four times.Emphasis on the quality and weight of pass,ensuring it is played in front of other player so that a smooth and even passing interchange achieved.

Repeat movement but now players take one touch.Emphasis on weight and timing of pass.

Practice B (Blue Cones)

Player 1 plays ball as before in front of player 2.Player 2 takes touch inside allowing player 1 to overlap then 2 plays ball in front of him.Player 1 then takes touch inside allowing player 2 to overlap then plays ball in front of him.Process repeated up and down cones as before,changing sides at top to allow use of both feet.

Practice C.

Now 3 players.Two touch at first .Ball with player 2 in centre.He plays to player 3 on right and then overlaps player 3 on right.Player 3 plays to player 1on left and overlaps.1 plays to 2 and overlaps and so on.Stop at top of lanes of cones then repeat down lanes.

Repeat movement but now players take one touch.Emphasis on weight and timing of pass.Then develop speed of movement and passing.

Quality of pass - weight,direction and timing

Quality of first touch

Smooth controlled balanced movement to receive and play in stride and maintain rhythm.

Passing and combination (2) (35 mins)

Session Objective:

Passing and combination (2) Development from passing and combinations (1)

Organisation:

Set up A. Players in threes with ball in middle.One defender,Centre player passes ball to either other player and play 3v1.

Development B.

As before but 3v2.

Development C.

Add extra forward player with back to goal to increase attacking options.Play to forward player.One-touch return to any side player then play.

Key Factors:

Movement off ball by players to receive/create space for others .

Quality of pass.

Stay onside.

Shooting as opportunity arises.

Stay onside.

Quality of finish.

Passing and Combination (3) Development from passing and combinations (1 and 2)

Organisation: (Areas not to scale,Use half pitch)

Set up D Players in threes with ball in middle.Two defenders.plus defensive midfield..forward player with back to goal to increase attacking options.Centre player passes ball to either other player and play 4 v 3.

Set Up E and F,Increase players ,developing to phase play eventually.

Development B.

As before but 3v2.

Development C.

Add extra forward player with back to goal to increase attacking options.Play to forward player.One-touch return to any side player then play.

Movement off ball by players to receive/create space for others .

Quality of pass.

Stay onside.

Shooting as opportunity arises.

Stay onside.

Quality of finish.
