6. Mentality - (a) Recognizing target and space ahead/behind the defender. (b) Speed of Approach to unbalance the defender or have them commit. (c) Preparation for next action - Goal / Target.

Organization:

Groups of 4, grids setup as shown (multiple grids can be setup to accomodate higher numbers)

2 players on each cone

Instructions:

Players drive at the cone and perform the "Slap Cut", after performing turn players play pass into the next person in line, and they repeat the sequence.

Each line performs the move with the foot indicated. After set period of time players rotate lines

Coaching Points:

-Drive at speed

-Entry touch to move outside of body on the outside of the foot that you plan to do move with

-Use sole of the foot to roll ball forward at angle

-Step with the ball to mimic making a pass or angular touch into space, bringing weight forward. This will help to provide the "slap"

-Use the outside of the foot that was used to the roll the ball to catch the ball before the ball is out of feet

-Touch of the feet in order to create space

Organization:

Setup as shown, with one player at the top cone

Instructions:

Players start with ball in same position as previous drill, with a player standing at the cone they were previously dribbling at. As they players drive to cone and perform move the player that is at the cone rotates to the next cone, working back and forth to provide a passive defender.

Players on ball repeat for set period of time

After set period of time players reverse roles.

Coaching Points:

-Drive at speed

-Entry touch to move outside of body on the outside of the foot that you plan to do move with

-Timing of the move

2v2+2

Organization:

2v2+(2).

Instructions:

Teams look to score in one of 2 goals, 2 neutrals

Neutrals are on a 2 touch restriction, act as bumper players. Restricted to the zones as shown, movement is not restricted

Shots must be taken before the zone to count as a goal

Coaching Points:

-Attack space at speed

-Recognition of the space vacated by the defender and pressure of the defender

-Use the defenders momentum against them to get into the space vacated in behind

-Angle and distance of the touches to aid in protection and acceleration

-Lower our center of gravity to aid in the turn

-Final touch out of feet and breaking the line

-Depth/Support/ Width/height of players off ball and the cues on when to move ie; as the player in possession is changing direction, can we depth and support be provided as the player in possession is looking to change direction, in order for them to be an immediate option.

Free Play (25 mins)

Organization:

3v3 / 4v4 Small-sided tournament games

4 teams of 3-4 players each team.

2 fields of 30x40 yards

2 Pugg Goals on opposite endlines.

Instructions:

4 Teams of 3

Play 3v3 tournament style format where each team will play one another.

Look to combine groups if possible.

Coaching Points:

Review of session's learning outcomes being translated into the game
