Rondo

Organization:

10 x 10 or 15 x 15 depending on numbers

Player 1 (defender) : 2 (attackers) ratio

Max amount of player in a grid = 5 attackers

Instructions:

1. Possession game where there is 1 defender every 2 players. Defender tries to steal the ball. "Attackers" try to possess. (Much like keep away)

2. Defender tries to touch the ball. If he/she does they switch with the player who lost possession.

3. If the ball goes out the defender stays the same (defenders must touch or steal the ball away to become an attacker)

4. Progress to Rondo transfer box (P3)

Progressions:

(P1) - 5 passes equals a life against the current defender. Must stay in for a second round after touching the ball

(P2) - A nutmeg or a through ball (if there are two defenders) counts away a life against the defenders.

(P3) - Rondo transfer: two grids are combined and the teams work against each other

Technical Warm-up: Ball Mastery

Organization:

Open space (15 x 15 if players wander too far)

Each player with a ball

Instructions:

1. Coach will introduce moves in a free movement exercise.

2. Players must practice using these move before moving on.

Coaching Points:

1. Body Shape - Use of body, arms etc to fake; Low center of gravity; Body over ball

2. Approach - Direction of touch (based on next action; Distance of touch (helps next action; Direction and distance of final touch

3. Surface - Toe part of the sole to drag ball back; Use of different surfaces of the foot: Inside/Outside touch away, pull back to maintain possession.

4. Awareness - Checking our shoulders; Identification of the defender; Identification of space; Recognition that space is behind defender; Recognition of space closed out by defender; Use defenders momentum against them (timing)

5. Execution of move - Direction of touch (based on next action)

Progressions:

(P1) - Into Semi/Opposed Activity; A3

Semi/Opposed 1v1

Organization:

15 x 10

Max: 5 players

1 ball; Extras on the side

Two end gates and one pug goal

Instructions:

1. Player A plays the ball into Player B

2. Player B sends the ball back to Player A, and then moves of the ball to touch one of the two side (center) cones.

3. Player A passes the ball to Player C

4. Player C tries to  score two points by: (1) Crossing the midline; and (2) putting the ball in the back of the net.

5. Player B defends Player C, and tries to prevent him/her from breaking the midline. If Player B steals the ball he/she can score by dribbling through either of the gates at the end.

Coaching Points:

1. Body Shape - Use of body, arms etc to fake; Low center of gravity; Body over ball

(P1) - Have Player B read the first touch of Player A. Based of the placement of the ball, Player B will move either left or right, receive the ball and play it into Player C. Following the pass Player B will close down the space in between and attempt to steal the ball.

Conditioned Game

Organization:

2v3 + 1 Neutral

Half field

Instructions:

1.  Defenders must get the ball up and wide; into one of the two pug goals.

2. Attackers must try to regain possession by stealing the ball back and scoring on goal.

3. Neutral can play for both teams

Coaching Points:

1. Body Shape - Use of body, arms etc to fake; Low center of gravity; Body over ball

2. Approach - Direction of touch (based on next action; Distance of touch (helps next action; Direction and distance of final touch

3. Surface - Toe part of the sole to drag ball back; Use of different surfaces of the foot: Inside/Outside touch away, pull back to maintain possession.

4. Awareness - Checking our shoulders; Identification of the defender; Identification of space; Recognition that space is behind defender; Recognition of space closed out by defender; Use defenders momentum against them (timing)

(P1) - Replace the pug goals with gates that the two sides can connect through

(P2) - Remove restrictions
