Aim:

- To develop individual foot skills and attacking moves, applying them effectively in a 1 v 1 situation.

Duration of session: 1 hour 30 minutes

Equipment: balls, 2 sets of pinnies, 2 mini goals, cones, whiteboard and pen

Ball Mastery and attacking moves (20 mins)

Set up:

-place cones in marked area as shown.

-Players work in 2's as shown.

Activity:

1.Basic FIFA 11+ warm up

2. Players perform different footskills in marked area - inside and outside, toe taps, soccer boxes, drags.

3. Move onto Attacking Moves.

Large cone are defenders. Players dribble at the same time and perform the attacking moves at the large cones. Repeat with left and right foot.

a. Side-step Fake

b. Scissors

c. Double Scissors

d. The Wave

e. Step-over

Dosage:

Intensity: Moderate to high

Activity: 2 minutes

Reps: 8-10

Rest: 15-30 seconds between each exercise

Coaching Points:

-close control

-use all surfaces of the foot

-keep your head up and use periheral vision

-Beat the defender, accelerate into open space.

Mirrors (20 mins)

Set up:

-As shown in the diagram

-Mirrors

Activity:

- 1 v 1

- Attacker dribbles at the defender, performs attacking moves and attempts to score by stopping the ball in between the cones to the left or right.

-Defender is just shadowing. The attacker or defender are not allowed to go past the white line.

-Keep rotating positions each rep.

Dosage:

Intensity: High

Duration: 15-45 seconds per rep

Reps: 6-10

Sets: 2

Rest: 15-45 seconds between rep. 1 minute between set.

Coaching Points:

-Aim - can you put your opponents off balance.

-close control

-short opposite movements to create a yard of space.

-identify the space and accelerate into it

-Keep rotating positions each rep.

Activity:

-3 v 3 with 1 neutral player

-Free play

Dosage:

Intensity: High

Duration per game: 3 minutes

Reps: 4-6

Rest: 1 minute between games

Coaching Points:

- encourage 1 v 1 dribbling and moves

-Can players beat their opponent 1 v 1 then look to make the pass to the next zone or score.

-Balance and Strength to beable to hold off your defender.

-Be prepared to play under pressure

- less coaching, let them play.
